Review: Read it. Buy it. Gift it. - For me, the most poignant image in this stunning new volume is on page 119. It's the expression on the face of the little girl who'd come to see Sheila, an 18 year old Sumatran tiger killed in a zoo two days earlier, that reminds you how much we stand to lose if we don't learn the lessons that Tigers Forever shares so well. Tigers Forever contains some of the rarest and most evocative images of tigers ever made. From the images in India of tigers gouging deep scratches in a marking tree, sending clear messages -- I am here, I am here! -- to the one of a kind photo of a wild Sumatran tiger with its glorious leonine mane, the book offers the kinds of glorious pictures that make your breath catch in wonder. There are also the tragically necessary photos of tigers maimed or killed by poachers, captured to dance for gaping tourists, parceled into cellophane to cure the ills of traditional medicine's followers. But here they are balanced by the stories and images of the men and women working to save tigers, from the guards armed with guns to the scientists armed with data. Interspersed, among photographer Steve Winter's intimate tales of the struggles to reach the last strongholds of wild tigers and capture their glorious lives in pictures, are profiles of the real heroes of the war to save tigers: biologists, activists, other writers and photographers working daily to stop illegal tiger trade, safeguard dwindling habitat, and maintain the political and public will to ensure the tigers' survival. Photographer Steve Winter and writer Sharon Guynup give us a beautiful and precious glimpse into the wild lives of tigers. I alternate soaring joy and plunging fear as I read Tigers Forever: joy that we share the Earth with such glorious animals; fear that someday we may not. But as Tigers Forever makes clear, we tiger-lovers -- and tigers themselves -- are holding our ground in some places. And the potential for clawing our way back to healthy tigers populations in the wild is still tantalizingly near. Want to help bring that hope closer? A portion of every sale of Tigers Forever will help fund a program of the same name at the big cat protection group Panthera. So buy Tigers Forever for everyone on your gift list who cares about ensuring that tigers remain a vibrant tenant of our shared planet. Forever.
Review: Exquisite piece of investigative and photojournalism. Spellbinding. - Tigers Forever is an exquisite piece of investigative and photojournalism from the dynamic, accomplished duo of Sharon Guynup and National Geographic photographer Steve Winter. This is the definitive book to learn about the state of the tiger. It is a sobering, eloquent adventure that explores the secret world of the tiger in five of their last strongholds on earth. With magnetic prose Guynup takes us into these rich and complex worlds, shares the natural history of this secretive and elusive beast, and describes the enormous challenges these cats now face as habitat is destroyed and population rises. She augments these incredible tales with profiles of unsung local heroes who strive to save the tiger in each of these countries. Winter's powerful images represent more than a decade of his expeditions to photograph these majestic cats. There are only 3,200 of these cats left in the wild! Guynup and Winter’s book is an eye-opening and uplifting account of not only the current state of the tiger but also the simple, straightforward actions we can take to ensure that this creature can increase its population and actually thrive alongside humans.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Preserving Tigers for All and Forever: I want my grandchildren to know that tigers still roam the earth!
*by N***I on November 18, 2013*

It is not often that a book touches your heart and soul the way I have been since I received and opened this incredible work of art. "Tigers Forever" is an elegant, beautiful and insightful compendium about the fragile nature of the remaining population of tigers. Steve Winter's poignant photography of these regal creatures combined with Sharon Guynup's powerful storytelling and memorable words, weave together a compelling, fact-based story that brings the stunning reality front and center that without action and intensive preservation, my grandchildren, and yours, may grow up with no remaining tigers roaming the earth. This book reminds us that without conscientious conservation and honest dialogue about the plight of endangered species, we may all learn that more beloved creatures are threatened and someday soon will no longer inhabit this planet. The devastation of losing tigers is not in isolation; the cascading impact to nature must be realized and this book intelligently and thoughtfully pulls this potentially devastating outcome into context. This book is a must read for anyone who is concerned about restoring a balance for the tiger's natural habitat and call to action to protect these creatures and more like them at risk in the magnificent animal kingdom. I hope this book enlightens others and compels us to all to meaningful action. Mr. Winters and Ms. Guynup are to be applauded for their incredibly beautiful and conscientious work - Bravo!
