Review: Worth it - Bit high in price, I got this on a whim for my cup, I actually wondered if it was worth it and it was. Not only does it make the drinking experice better with that warm ceramic cup to your lips feel. But it also brings up the amount your cup can hold. You can get a extra oz. Or so in there and the open too makes beverages with creme more enjoyable. My only concern was that it was press fit lid with a gasket, but it sealed and works great.
Review: The company likely knows that anyone purchasing the Ember is willing to spend a good chunk on luxury - I'm going with 4-stars because the price is extremely high... way too high to even be adequately marketable. If this was $20-$25, I'd give this 5-starts. As of today there are only 3 reviews... and I believe the reason for that, is that the price is ridiculous. The company likely knows that anyone purchasing the Ember is willing to spend a good chunk on luxury, but $40 on a ceramic ring, is almost insulting (to their otherwise-loyal customer base). If I was offering psychological consulting for this company, I would have warned about the unintended consequences of setting the price this high. However, my curiosity got the best of me, and my intention was to send it back, after taking a look at it. With that said, I've decided to keep it. Why? I'm a nerd. And to be honest, the plastic lid that comes with the Ember is, itself, quite nicely designed. I wouldn't be bothered at all by using that all the time. In fact, I use it 50% (or more) of the time so far, because it protects against splashing or flying insects (I sometimes conduct therapy sessions outdoors). Also, if using the battery, it keeps the heat in better, helping save a tiny bit of battery (for more detail on battery expectations, see my review of the actual Ember). So, yes, I'm keeping it. But, no, I don't recommend it at this price. HOWEVER, if you are looking for a unique GIFT for someone that owns the Ember Mug, this is thoughtful and creative, very lovely gift idea to get them--since they would (hopefully) never get it for themselves. -R.

Bit high in price, I got this on a whim for my cup, I actually wondered if it was worth it and it was. Not only does it make the drinking experice better with that warm ceramic cup to your lips feel. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's fine for my purposes

I like this top mainly because it is much shallower and doesn't protrude into the cup, taking away available volume for coffee. I've heard that the open top makes the cup struggle to maintain 140 degrees. I'm not sure about that. I can only say that my preferred temperature is 130 degrees and the mug has no problem maintaining that. Also, I chose the open top because I do not use it as a commuter mug. It sits on the charging plate next to my laptop and never leaves the house. If I took it out I would have to resort to using the original top. Value for the money? That's subjective. I guess if you can justify $179 for a coffee mug, you can justify $30 for a top.
