In the instructions it says to let it stay plugged in for about 10 minutes to charge up. I let it charge for almost a half hour and still nothing on the screen. I was all but ready to complain and send it back when I just happen to press the "clock" button and everything came on the screen. This was a "DUH" moment, although should have been clearer in the manual.Setting it up was very simple and stated clearly in the manual. I like that I can set up to 10 presets so if I want the lights to come on only for a little bit in morning and then night I can do that. There is also a random setting which would be good for house lights when youre away that nobody thinks theres actually a schedule and youre always home.I have an old pin-style programmable outlet also that Ive been using for about 10 years. Its reliable and easy but whenever theres a power outage I have to reset the time and if Im away, that can really throw off the fishies. With this one, it actually stores energy to keep the time set properly if the power goes out.
