Now, the P41 runs cooler, uses less power, is faster, and is just as reliable (750 TBW warranty), if not more, than the 980. It is the new winner. **Q: What would be a suitable external enclosure for this drive?** A: Dweib McGee's references to "Gen4" I think confuses USB4 and PCIe-4! These P41 SSDs will run at their max NVMe PCIe-4x4 speeds when installed inside a very recent vintage machine that supports PCIe-4 and will NOT when installed into PCIe-3 slot!!! I'm not aware of any NVMe to USB4 (or other Thunderbolt) bridge that yet supports PCIe-4 so you'd likely NOT see much benefit to running a P41 externally compared to the cheaper Hynix P31. That said, any true Thunderbolt or fully compliant USB4 enclosure will provide maximum speed from the computer to the bridge. Avoid any USB3.x housing unless you are running older tech (i.e. much slower) SSDs. **Q: Will this work with early 2015 macbook pro 13" retina?** A: I believe it should. The P31 was used a lot for 2015 MBP SSD Upgrades. Exceeds stated performance, and is cheaper than many ssds of the same capacity. I use these in my laptop, desktop, and server, and have never had any issues. Heat sink is recommended, but it is able to sustain good speeds without! Fits anywhere an NVMe M.2 should. Will buy more when chip shortages go down.
