## Description

The Tracer Opaque Art Projector by Artograph is a versatile art projector for the novice to experienced artist or crafter. A long-time favorite of the Artograph line of opaque art projectors. The Tracer enlarges any design or pattern onto a wall or easel from 2 to 14 times the original size. The projected image can be traced and colored as desired. Great for artwork sketches, outlining, posters, signs, small murals, home wall decor and decoration, quilt patterns, and more. No set-up is necessary, and it is simple to operate. A dark room is required for maximum visibility.

Review: Projects, stays cool with energy efficient bulb - I'm giving this thing 5 stars because it works as expected and is great for hobbyists and small business. I am almost finished with a painting that I started using this thing. It is amazing for drawing accurate images. Don't listen to all the reviews about this thing running hot. Mine came with an energy efficient bulb, and I am soon going to replace it with a super bright LED bulb. Yes, it is dim with old incandescent bulbs, but why even bother with them when you can have 100W brightness with a cool LED or florescent bulb? You will need to work in a dark room to use this, just like any projector. If you're looking for a good deal, this is it. These sell at art stores for $120, and if you're into making backdrops, or murals, or just painting your kids walls, this thing works great. If you aren't willing to spend a few bucks to get a really good LED bulb, this will still work, but you will need to let your eyes adjust, especially if you are drawing or working on a canvas that isn't white. I STRONGLY urge you to buy a super bright LED bulb along with this. The brighter the better, within the wattage limits on this enlarger. The largest image you can copy from is a 5 inch by 5 inch picture. It sounds tiny, but all you have to do is get a picture or image you want to enlarge, and print it out using the computer to reduce it to a 5x5" picture. Grid your work out, and do one section at a time. I just finished an 8ft by 8ft backdrop using this method, and it worked great. I received a ton of compliments on the quality. If you have any questions about this thing, feel free to ask.
Review: Good but awkward - This works great. You can see full color images and the size will focus even if I fill a full wall. Only downside is that it’s hard to find a good set up for tracing / placing a canvas because the projection is always slightly higher than floor level. I had to sit on the floor to do my first test and so it was hard to get the details right simply due to my physical body position. The projection itself is highly detailed so I think I just need to find a good spot to set this up. Also it won’t project screens but that’s expected

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I want to project a 5" x 5" image onto a 6-foot by 6-foot area. Can this projector make an image that large?**
A: It would be a bit of a challenge, but it can be done. I can project an 8' wide by 6' tall image. The room would need to be quite dark with no outside light contamination. As the distance from the wall increases the image intensity and fine detail decreases.

**Q: Can the image you are projecting from be larger that 5"x5"? ind if so, up to how much larger? Thank you~!**
A: The image definitely can be made much larger than 5x5. My husband and I made images that were 7ft+ tall off of an image that was about 6 inches. You do it simply by stepping further back with the projector. However, the farther away you step back the blurrier the lines get. We were projecting some images with simple lines so it was easy. The more complicated the image you are trying to trace the fuzzier it will get as you step back to increase the size. As I said in my review, this is not a projector for a serious artist that wants to make sophisticated drawings. However, for the crafter that wants to blow up images to trace a mural on a wall or cut images out of plywood (as we did) it works great. I would be happy to send you some photos of what we created if I knew how to get them to you. I could send them via Facebook or email.

**Q: I do custom painted windows on re-claimed windows, would it project an outline (enlarged) onto a window?**
A: It would project it THROUGH the window unless you put some paper on the opposite side to the one you are painting. But that's a fairly easy fix, I'd think. Another alternative that I personally would find to be awesome is to get the glass sandblasted. The frosted glass would take the outline projection perfectly, and you could use that as an element in your work by leaving some of the frosted portions unpainted. It would also make it much less likely that the paint would peel later. I could understand why that wouldn't be practical for a lot of the projects you might try but sounds kinda cool right?Edit: I see Pam there beat me to the paper idea. So I'll see you paper and raise you 3020 Liquid Masking Film 32 oz here on Amazon. Paint it on the opposite side, project, trace... and then when you don't need it anymore, peel it off like cling film.

**Q: Most of the concerns was the excessive heat from the bulb. What can be substituted to lessen heat and what wattage if led ?**
A: I too have had problems with the heat from the bulb curling the drawing I want to project. After reading this I thought of some LED bulbs I had bought from Amazon. I have a drawing I needed to project on a canvas but knew it would curl before I was done so I tried the LED bulb. It fit perfectly! The only problem is it a 25 watt equivalent but it worked in a very dark room, it wasn't overly bright but it worked! My drawing stayed cool and I'm very happy. I noticed they also carry 40 and 50 watt in the medium screw base (which is what I have). I need to go start my painting now, but I'll give you the information and you can do some searching for the right watt .LOHAS LED G14 Light Bulb, 3W Daylight White 5000K LED Energy Saving Light Bulbs, 25 Watt Equivalent LED Lights for Home, E26 Medium Screw Base (6 Pack)

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spend the money on this one instead of the next step down
*by F***X on February 15, 2014*

Last Christmas, I bought this for my girlfriend, and (somewhat awkwardly) her dad got her the Artograph EZ Tracer. Our lack of communication though has resulted in a pretty good opportunity to provide a good comparison between the two. This one provides a very nice bright BIG image of whatever you put under it. And you can make it very large before there is any big drop in quality. It's easy to focus, and can accomodate a CFL bulb. The EZ Tracer is ok... but pretty much only as a toy. It works, but the image tends to be muddy, and is difficult to focus. (set mostly by moving the whole projector rather than through any lens focus mechanism). It also isn't able to enlarge the image much at all. It also only has room for a standard bulb, and heat becomes an issue pretty quickly. It would still be fine for applications that don't need much enlarging or long periods of use and is a good projector for the cost, but you certainly get what you pay for.
