If you are comfortable using a screwdriver on your laptop, "ifixit" has excellent step by step instructions to help you with the install. It takes me about 30 minutes, going at a slow speed, from start to finish to install the SSD, not counting the software install. You may want to have a can of compressed air handy, when you take the bottom apart, you will want to take your computer outside and blow off the accumulated dust on the components, just don't get any closer than about 6 inches with the source of the compressed air. For the record, I never installed a "trim enabler" and would advise that you do not install one, there is bit of controversy about using a third party trim enabler with Yosemite. My understanding is that Samsung has a built in trim enabler, you do not need to activate it, it's done automatically. **Q: I have a HP Pavilion with a 1TB hard drive. I onlly use 120 to 130 GB. Can I replace it with the 500 GB SSD PRO? The 840 uses cheaper memory technology than the 830 and 840pro which limits its write endurance over its lifetime.To answer your question about why the 830 is more expensive than the 840pro. My first hypothesis is that supply for the 840pro is much greater than the 830. Amazon will have to lower the price of that product if they want to keep people from buying it at other stores. I also noticed that many of the reviews for the 830 were from customers replacing hard drives on their Macbooks. If they were recommended that drive by a friend and saw the good reviews, they may or may not check similar products. At that point they are in the same boat as you, wondering why the ssd that looks better in specs is cheaper.
