Everything you need to start 3D printing at a reasonable price, but with limitations

This was my intro to 3D printing and first off I have to say that watching it work had me completely and totally MESMERIZED!! It had the same effect on me as watching a tropical fish tank. I seriously could've watched it all day...only my first print (flower vase) took about 4 hours and I had other things to do, so I took some video clips through the process and spliced them together so you get an idea. I admit that I was afraid of this thing at first, but once you unbox it, set up is actually REALLY simple and you don't need a PhD or to speak "geek" (or Chinese) to do it. I was up and printing in about 10 minutes from the box. Here's what I like about it:SIZE - For me having a printer that makes a very small footprint in my office space is a plus.INCLUDED ACCESSORIES - I really appreciate that this comes with a spool of PLA filament to get you started, as well as 1GB TF card that has been pre-loaded with the software and a full color PDF of the instruction manual which was easy to read, as well as a nice variety of templates you can choose from to print right away. I chose the spiral flower vase.EASY - This is a HUGE deal for me. If this thing took me hours and hours to figure out how to use, I would've gotten fed up with it quickly, but it really is simple to learn the basics and get started! Then you can learn as you go, as much or as little as you want. The software isn't too difficult to use either. This would make a great gift for a kid who is interested in computers or engineering.PRICE POINT - It's hard to beat this price for an entry level 3D printer that works this well. Here's what I didn't like so much and what failed for me on my inaugural attempt at printing. First, the printer started printing my design well before the filament had been adequately heated up and moved through the feed tube which messed everything up. Be aware of that. When you feed the filament in for the first time, you have to feed it through as far as it will go. The instructions didn't say anything about that. Once the filament had made it all the way down and started coming out I stopped the print, started over and it worked fine. Second, I didn't use the glue stick the first time because the instructions didn't say you had to and my vase failed to stay put for 15 minutes, let alone the whole print job. You really need to use the glue stick supplied. Maybe this is common among all 3D printers, I don't know, but rubbing glue stick on the base plate to get the print job to stay in place just feels like not a very elegant solution for such a highly sophisticated piece of equipment. Additionally, my print job ended up getting knocked off/falling off the stand before it was finished (probably about 3/4 of the way done) even after I used PLENTY of glue stick on the plate (see video). I didn't see it happen, but came down to check it around 4 hours and this is what I found. It was completely undisturbed so it's not like I can blame my dog or my child or a gust of wind. When you invest that much time into a print job, it's really frustrating when it comes off before it's done. On my second print I did a better job of applying the glue stick right before the print started so it wasn't yet dry and the project stuck to the plate much better. So, that's also something to be aware of. Third, my vase, which is very cute and looks pretty good for my first try (or would've been had it finished completely) doesn't hold water, haha. The base leaks like a sieve. I doubt this printer is meant for printing too many "functional" items. In summary, I think this is a great and relatively inexpensive way to get your feet wet in 3D printing and comes with everything you need to actually get started! It would make a fun gift or addition to any family office or student dorm room. As long as you have appropriate expectations for it based on its size etc., I don't think you'll be disappointed. I'm sure there is a learning curve and I will update and perhaps add a star when I can figure out how to successfully get a full print without it falling off the base plate. I might just need a little more practice. Hope this helps!

If you don't want to fool with trying to level a nonadjustable print bed then I wouldn't recommend this particular printer.

*by M***Y on Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2018*

Pros and Cons:Pros:Sturdy injection molded housing.Easy interface.Small footprint.Decent repeatability.Print bed surface is magnetized for removal.Better than I expected but...Cons:Limited functions from menu.Print bed is not level which causes issues. No real way to level the print bed.Linear bearings are loose affecting print quality.Linear bearings occasionally make grinding sounds.Uses non standard size filament. (1.75mm)No way to change linear bearings because they are molded into the carriages.Setting Z axis zero is a pain.instone website is down with no support available.I did not expect much from a low cost printer and was disappointed with the fact the print bed was completely unlevel. There was a .045" difference between the front of the printing bed and the rear. I was however able to level the bed by using a feeler gauge and some shims between the print bed surface and the bed itself. The print bed consists of a plastic carriage that has a thin tin metal plate glued to it. this metal plate allows the print surface to stick to it via magnets. The magnet allows removal of the print surface for cleaning. I however had to re-glue the metal plate to the print bed because it was held on with cheap tape.Overall, it's a cheap 3d printer and ok for small prints just don't expect this printer to work properly without some tweaking.

Great intro machine ,use lots of glue

Wow, i paid 130.00 with prine shipping and this thing has been printing non stop for the last 30 days. The build plate is a little finicky but once you know what to look for and how to level it this machine works great. In the beggining i had some issues with the x axis skipping off track but after adding a 8 inch box fan from the dollar store pointed at it while printing i havent had an issue.I have finished off the first roll of filament and plus 2 more larger rolls (i made a cheap roller for the bigger rolls since they wouldnt fit on the hook) i have since also purchased an ender 3 but still prefer this model for smaller prints.Ps a small butane or propane torch helps to get any warps out of the build plate.mines not perfect but it works.
