## Description

Ruckus R510 Unleashed enables controller-less Wi-Fi architecture for small business environments with superior performance, lower costs and simplified management. Separate controllers and access point licenses are no longer needed, significantly reducing upfront costs. Set-up is also easy, thanks to a simplified web interface that helps businesses configure Wi-Fi in just 60 seconds. Does not include power adapter or PoE injector. Rx Sensitivity: -103dBm, Max. Interference Mitigation is 10dB, BeamFlex Gains: 4dB.

Review: Best in class for high-interference/high-density, plus 802.11r/k/v that actually works. - Ruckus is my go-to for set-and-forget business-grade wifi, and their radio performance, especially in high-interference scenarios (which are becoming almost the norm these days) completely smokes the SoC-based commodity stuff resident in almost every other solution out there (UniFi included). The R500-series is the best price-to-performance ratio at current street prices versus the 300 or 700 series, which are both fine products in their own right. Unleashed is an excellent option for those needing to deploy blanketed wifi without a discrete controller in smaller, flat-ish networks, with no more than 50 APs. You can be up and running in under 15 minutes, and they play very well in mixed-vendor stacks. For example, I install a lot of Ubiquiti ER-4 gateways with HPE ProCurve/Aruba or Cisco SG/Catalyst switches, and everything inter-operates beautifully (assuming you know how to configure each - VLANs, etc.). Seamless roaming and private and guest wifi all function as-intended and non-stop. The system also auto-heals if an AP(s) go(es) down, even the master (auto-failing over to a new master), then re-adopts the downed AP(s) automatically. All of that is simply the way distributed wifi should work. Especially in 2019. Compared to other products, I'd say Ruckus' strength lies in their actual radio tech and the client connectivity experience (BeamFlex+, ChannelFly, etc.), as opposed to having slick software (ie. UniFi) or a more polished vertical hardware stack (HPE Aruba, Meraki). So putting aside fancier dashboards and cloud control panels, Ruckus is tough to beat when it comes to providing the best physical connection possible in *most* scenarios. For those pro-sumers who can't grasp how an AP like this could ship without an AC adapter, I've got one acronym for you: PoE, the optimal and intended power source for any serious AP. Of course, they'll accept a standard 12V wall wart, but especially in a corporate setting, that's a very cludgy workaround; even a drop-in PoE injector would allow for much better placement and, consequently, performance of the AP. One last item: support. At least as of the time of this review, make no mistake about it, Ruckus is most definitely NOT a fan of any of their stuff being bought through desertcart, regardless of whether it's via a certified reseller. Not only would they be displeased to learn of this, they would likely go so far as to not support you if you have a deployment issue or warranty claim. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT before ordering. If you're OK with it, then desertcart can be a great way to get extra APs on-site in very short order; a good option for when the traditional sales channels would take too long. Hopefully, Ruckus will come up with a better way of supporting desertcart purchases in the future, because I can only see them increasing. Overall, a 5-star product, with a 4-star support and distribution network.
Review: Good product- support lacking - Found this unit easy to setup and use. Called support on an issue and it was less than pleasant.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What power supply do I need to buy for this AP?**
A: I've used the 48V, 24 watt PoE injector from ubiquiti before. Or the label on the AP says 12V 1.0A if you actually want to use a power supply and not injector.

**Q: I have a lake house with at&t wifi. the modem is located 300' from our dock. trying to get wifi down to the dock. will this product work?**
A: Hello Great question. The RS510 unit would be an indoor solution. You would probably want to look at an outdoor device like the Ruckus P300 to create a wireless bridge between your dock and house. Depending upon your direct line of sight from the house to dock area, you may not have to do a wireless bridge and a single Outdoor AP with a directional patch/sector antenna.

Please feel free to give our office a call at 877-449-0458 to discuss

**Q: What is the difference between the 9u1 unleashed and the 901 zoneflex?**
A: 9U1 is Ruckus's Unleashed version which does not require a controller. Ruckus unleashed can only scale to a quantity of 25 APs

The 901 requires a controller to manage multiple APs on the same network.

Both are identical in hardware specifications, just managed differently.

Please give us a call if you have any questions.

**Q: How do I change the password?**
A: You must default the access point using the reset button on the unit, and then use the default username/password to log back in and reconfigure it.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good product- support lacking
*by E***. on November 26, 2025*

Found this unit easy to setup and use. Called support on an issue and it was less than pleasant.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ BeamFlex+ Wow. WiFi calls on iPhone are great.
*by V***N on August 18, 2018*

update May 2020. bought two R510’s to replace two R310’s that were end of life. +++ Details matter. BeamFlex+ feature adjusts RF energy for location of the mobile device and the orientation. The R510 (BeamFlex+) is 2x the cost of the R310 (BeamFlex). Easy setup. Added this R510 to existing R310s (the R310's are great too). Most of the Enterprise Ruckus features are available -- like setting up a Guest WiFi where they request access, you approve it, and they get the access key via email or sms.
