Even though it's not real leather, it has the look and feel, and is definitely high quality enough to make a great gift. The deep wine-color is beautiful, and I really appreciate being able to add or remove pages anywhere I like. I love the combination lock (no key to lose!), and found the passcode setup very easy. It also includes a really nice pen. The only slight problem I had was that the wrong size refill paper was sent, and it seems like it might possibly be difficult to find the correct refill size. The entire journal is covered in a leather material...it just feels so soft and it is actually bouncy or cushiony... kind of like those expensive leather portfolios. The lock was easy to navigate. Once you slide left, it just pops right off. Inside is super fancy and better than I had anticipated. Many pockets and flap for storing cards or loose papers. Even comes with a fancy looking ballpoint pen. The pages are all lined...
