Join the 80,000+ writers who have taken the 90-day journey! The 90-Day Screenplay was workshopped in Alan Watt's writing classes over the course of ten years, and has helped hundreds of screenwriters complete their work. Many alumni have gone on to illustrious careers as screenwriters and producers in TV and film. The 90-Day Screenplay method of structuring your story is organic, involving a rigorous inquiry into the dilemma besetting your characters. This inside-out approach avoids the distractions that frequently occur when one's focus is placed squarely on plot. Screenwriting is often taught by Hollywood story analysts who confuse story structure with "plotting," thus leading to a formulaic, one-size-fits-all style of writing. By focusing on the dilemma besetting your characters, and by exploring the resolution to this dilemma, the plot emerges naturally in surprising and dynamic ways. The 90-Day Screenplay will guide you through the process of outlining your screenplay, writing a first draft, and completing a rewrite, all in three months. In this day-by-day guide you will: Uncover the dilemma at the heart of your screenplay Learn how to write from your subconscious Rewrite your work efficiently Discover your story's structure as an experiential model Develop a process of getting the story from your imagination to the page Review: Great Mentor! - Thank you, Alan. This book is an excellent guide to writing a screenplay! The book combined with Alan’s follow up emails have made the process so much easier. Review: A real "breakthrough tool!" - It is obvious that Alan Watt is an extraordinary teacher- The 90-Day Screenplay has prompts, guidelines, and a methodology that is unlike anything I've gotten out of any book or writing class. The exercises in The 90 Day Screenplay have been invaluable to me in my current projects, a novel and a screenplay. After spending just 30 minutes with my copy of The 90-Day Screenplay, I was able to get to the heart of what my stories are about, as well as address some very important story issues that I was blocked and confused by. Every writer should have this book to get their creative process flowing- even novelists and short story writers- it is FULL of core concepts and good reminders for writers of every level, in any stage of their career.

The Best Guide for Screenplay Writing
I was working simultaneously on two screenplays that I thought were both so clever but I couldn't get them to come together. I thought a guide to screenplay writing might help. This book was rated highest so I ordered it. I'm so glad I did. The layout of the book of having one concept with homework assignments each day really breaks down the work of writing into small, easy to do, steps. The homework is a list of questions that the author selects that helps develop the characters while working on that day's concept. As I answered these questions each day I realized that my characters weren't complete people in my first go around at writing and by really delving into the topics I realized that my characters were kind of one dimensional before. I had been doing what the author of this book says not to do - creating a story and moving my characters around in it. By working through each lesson my characters became real people. And the story lines I had created before have evolved into something much more interesting with dilemmas and solutions that I think audiences will be interested in following. My screenplays are really moving along now and I can't wait to submit them for review. Watch out Hallmark Channel - new movies are on the way! I highly recommend this book to anyone who is even thinking of writing a screenplay - whether you just have an idea or have a screenplay written but its just not there yet. This book will definitely be a worthwhile read not only for your first screenplay but for everyone you write in the future.

Only finished Part 1, had to write a review.
The truth is, Part 1 ALONE is worth the price of this book. I'm only 12% in, but its clear this is THE book on screenwriting. In my research, I've been able to put screenwriting books into two categories: 1. Overly committed to a specific (and creatively limiting) structure. 2. Overly loose, and not immediately useful. This seems to be the PERFECT balance. Again, I'm only 20 pages in, but so far, this seems to be the case. I love how recent this book is, as well. This is fresh, insightful material, taken directly from the author's best-selling class. Alan - thank you for this gift.

Very Helpfull
If you're attempting your very first script or have written a dozen already, you will find useful and helpful information in the pages of this book. I've written 5 short films which have been produced and 2 features (1 produced). I found this a worthwhile book to have for advise in my future efforts.

Very clear, engaging, and inspiring. It helped ...
Very clear, engaging, and inspiring. It helped me fill in the gaps that I felt my screenplay had. It made me get specific about things I didn't know how to be specific about prior to reading this book. It asks you questions and provides exercises that push your creativity and writing forward.

Takes the worry and fears away
The title got me hooked and didn't disappoint. I didn't want to believe that agony was a non negotiable companion when writing a screenplay as I have seen in many accounts before. This book confirms my faith that script writing can be done quickly and still leave room for your distinctive voice and imagination.

Wrote two Screenplays
I read this book quiet a few times now and have written two screenplays using the techniques provided. It is a good read. If you are hoping for Tarantino to give you a call after reading this book, then wake up.

Inspirational and instructive : a fantastic introduction to the screenwriter’s art and craft
This book has clearly been honed by years of teaching, feedback and rewrites, making it the most accessible and concise introduction to screenwriting I have read. It instructs and inspires, and is never boring. Highly recommended.
