The distance of the first position to the base (after the bottom is removed to expose the M20 thread) is 30". So again, this is extended from the first pin position (end of pole) to the end of base, where thread is located. Not 35" as the posting says... we were real tight on height and the only want to really knew for certain was to buy one! Pole is what you would expect from Gator, solid, smooth and well designed.
