Then thread the handle back onto the pad. Sometimes, you dont even have to do that, you can just J hook it one side at a time through the damper opening. **Q: How long is the handle?** A: it has been a couple of years since I placed it in an unused flue. Went from a wood stove to gas. Best I can recall it is over one foot but less than two, in and around 18 inches would be my best guess. If too short for you sleeve a pipe around the handle and push it into place. If you wish, in the future to remove it, equip it with a nylon rope. I found if you put it in place and slightly pull it back it seals better. **Q: Can this be used year round, perpetually? We have no damper and do not plan to use the fireplace.** A: I removed my wood stove but left the chimney. I went to a natural gas fireplace that has its own exhaust tubing. Cold air was descending down the old chimney in the Winter, so I needed to close it off. This I did after the gas fireplace was installed. Had I seen this product sooner I would have used it at the bottom. I used it by pushing it down the stack as far as I could reach. I left the handle in place in case I wanted to withdraw it. Replaced the rain protecting vent to keep it dry. Did this in the Spring of 2012. No problem so far. **Q: Is the 12"x12" plug big enough for a 12"x12" flue?** A: The actual dims of the 12x12 Flueblocker are 13"x13".
