Built-in Microphone Review: I needed a webcam for my Windows 10 desktop PC for video conferencing/meetings with work colleagues during the coronavirus lockdown. As I already own a Wansview wifi security camera, which I’m very pleased with, I decided to give this webcam a try and I’m so glad I did. The webcam has a fixed 1.5M (5ft) lead and comes in a small box with an instruction sheet. As the webcam is plug & play with Windows 10, setting up was very easy. Switch on PC, plug in webcam, job done. The webcam stays securely in place on top of my monitor thanks to the adjustable base. Even though my monitor has a thin bezel it was easy to adjust the base so the webcam doesn’t obscure any part of the screen. Getting the right angle was easy as well. The base can also be adjusted to be used off monitor on a desktop or shelf although I prefer the camera to be looking slightly down from above. The 1080p HD video is sharp and clear with accurate colour. Feedback from colleagues confirm the quality of both video, and sound from the built-in microphone. This webcam is far better than the webcam on my Windows 10 laptop. I’ve not needed to use the manual focus function as it works so well in automatic focus. Overall, I am very pleased with this webcam, it does everything I want of it. And at less than half the price of the cheapest webcam from other well-known brands, it’s a real bargain as well. Review: At the time I bought this item it was on offer for £13.87. I needed a camera for online school due to lockdown and so I proceeded to buy one, also I use this camera for discord. So ignoring the price, the camera quality is decent, so when there is good lighting, the camerea performs pretty well, actually not bad and pretty usable, I would say basically good. The exposure settings for this webcam is poor, stuggles alot to adjust so you can get blown out highlights quite frequently. In low light, like we are talking with a table lamp turned on, it is okay, defo usable, the issue comes with this weird artificating that comes with the webcam which covers a square portion of the top left of a 16:9 image. which I included an image of, but I don't really mind, I mean I did not pay more then £20 so its not a bother, so long as it provides a good enough image I don't mind. Also when the table lamp is on and in low light conditions, since my monitor is in front of me producing this white light, my face becauses way to exposed, like I become white, because of how over exposed the image is, since the camera struggles with exposure, along that note it struggles to auto focus alot, basically I think auto focus is non existant. But yeah if this camere is under £14 again, and you are looking for an affordable webcam that works decently well, yeah sure buy it. Although you probably won’t need it. The only time I did need support it was actually all my fault – the security camera I had purchased from Wansview was switched off for a few months while doing some building work in that area, and when I re-installed it I had forgotten my password and I didn’t know how to reset the camera because I’d thrown the instructions away. DOH! And even though I was quite rude in my e-mail to Wansview (my bad), they responded immediately and dealt with my problem and got me up and running straight away. So, for that reason alone, I will always be confident buying Wansview items. Back to the Wansview 1080p webcam review. It’s a great little webcam, it was delivered in one day with Amazon Prime, and it was super easy to install. I’m running Windows 10 and I just hung the webcam on top of my monitor, plugged in the USB lead, which is nice and long, and it immediately showed up on my screen using the Windows 10 Camera app. So, from opening the box, until seeing my image on the screen, it took about 20 seconds in total. There is no need to read any instructions, just simply take it out of the box and plug it in – that’s it! The picture is very sharp and clear, much much clearer than my old Microsoft webcam, which is a LifeCam HD-3000 and it has a wider field of vision (I didn’t realise how fuzzy the old webcam image was until I got this new webcam). The Wansview webcam does have a slight fish-eye effect at the edges – this is probably due to the wider field of vision. It’s much brighter than my previous Microsoft webcam, and the automatic light compensation doesn’t keep changing like my Microsoft webcam tended to do most of the time. The image is just consistently lit at the same clear level and doesn’t keep going brighter or darker, although if you want to manually change that you can, but all the default settings are absolutely OK. The photo quality is good, 2.1MP 16:9 (1920 x 1080), and the video recording is good, 1080p 16:9 30fps with voice pickup via the built-in mic, although I did have to adjust the Windows volume settings for the Camera app to pick up my voice, but then again I had to do exactly the same thing with the Microsoft webcam to pick up my voice using the Windows Camera app. However, the mic picked up my voice very clearly when using the Skype for Business app on my PC without any intervention required. I think there may be an issue with the actual Windows Camera app when recording audio (its’ quieter than when using Skype), because it was the same for both the Microsoft webcam and the Wansview webcam – I need to investigate that further.
