Moreover the potato infusion encourages the sporulation and pigment production in some dermatophytes. The potato dextrose agar can be supplemented with the acid to reduce pH, or the antibiotics for inhibition of bacterial growth. Directions: Suspend 39.0 gram in 1000 ml distilled water adjust the pH if required. Boil to dissolve the medium completely. Sterilize by autoclaving at 15 lbs pressure (121 °C) for 15 min, cool it to 42-45 °C and distribute aseptically in to the plates. Ensure complete solidification and inoculate aseptically. After autoclaving the pH of the medium can be set to 3.5 ±0.2 by addition of the 10% Tartaric acid (Quantity is specified on each container).
