Good for watching a migration trail or game trail to understand their patterns. Doesn't rely on movement. Also good for time-lapse construction projects. That was my initial motivation for creating a timelapse of a deck rebuild but it didn't work out for me timing-wise. Leverages 10x AA batteries for up to 6 months of photos. (You provide your own storage card).Flexible photo scheduling so you don't have to take photos when work isn't happening.Pricey but worth it in the end. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Large HD Case, 6-month Time Lapse unattended, but only 1080p video *by A***L on Reviewed in the United States on 20 December 2021* ITEM: Rexing Model TL-1 Dedicated 1080p-2mp Time Lapse Camera, Photo & VideoPRICE: $ 260.00 at time of reviewUpon receipt I loaded the unit with 12 AA batteries, not supplied with the camrea system. As soon as I had familiarized myself with the camera’s functions, I tested both the highest resolution video and photo functions. Running the camera through its internal playback function I could see that I’d activated the video and taken photos. I then pulled the micro SD card out of the camera and copied the files to my computer where I was able to view them on my large monitor. At the video’s 1080p, the video was OK, but not as sharp had it been a 4k camera system. The photos were acceptable, but not the high resolution I’d wanted to see.Regarding the build quality, the camera system and its high-impact plastic case are well suited for unattended commercial construction time-lapse applications. The case is weather proof to rain and wind, and looks heavy-duty enough to withstand both rough weather and a little knocking around. I had no trouble loading 8 AA batteries into the door assembly. But I did have some difficulty getting the little cover off the display-side of the case. It’s a tight fit and I didn’t want to break the cover or any of the tabs. Under that cover you’ll put another 4 batteries. So, with a 512gb micro SD card and 12-AA Batteries, and setting this camera for ‘One Photo per Every 5-Seconds’ , the camera will operate unattended for 6 months and yield 288 photos per day, 8640 photos per month, for a total of 51,840 photos total. Now that 6 month on-site capability is unique to the larger cameras like this one. And as I could see when I was loading all the batteries, I believe the size of the case is primarily driven by the need to house those twelve AA cells.My interest was in high resolution, short term, (as in one or two week), time lapse recordings. My thoughts on Rexing’s highest video resolution of 1080p was that as important as the resulting videos and photos of a job site might be, I wouldn’t want to be held to 1080p resolution. On other Amazon pages, I saw 4k time lapse cameras. Yes, they’re more costly. But it’s typically not the cost of the camera that’s the issue when looking at the value of the project being recorded.After trying out this camera, and if I were looking for a budget priced recording device, I might be interested in it, and would recommend it. Given the current price of under $300, I see this, for my purposes, as a secondary and/or backup time-lapse camera. I would recommend augmenting a recording project with this camera, but am more focused on a 4k video system as the main camera.
