My hair color is naturally a medium ash brown and it's hard to find a good store bought ash color that doesn't get brassy. It completely neutralizes the red and the color lasts maybe 6-8 weeks before I feel like I need to apply it again (I wash my hair every other day to every 2 days). I also like the versatility of selecting for a wet or dry application to get a more or less intense color. I've always done a dry application and leave it on for 25min. Ash has green in it, it’s great for neutralizing brass, but if hair is dry and damaged it will grab gray/green. Is your hair highlighted? If so, you will want to apply this to the root area first and not leave on the length for long. I’d definitely apply this to wet hair if you want the highlights to show through. The longer you leave the product on, the darker it will be. The only way you might be able to do so is to measure out half of each of the components, leave them unmixed, and put them in a separate, sealed containers until you're ready to use them, but it'll be up to you to measure it out correctly. If you don't measure it correctly, you might not get precisely the same result.
