Also, considerations of traveling with limited space in suitcases made this option appear undesirable.After breaking two plastic sock aids in less than two months - the last one snapped in half while putting a mild compression sock on it - I gave in and bought this device. After a week of using it, I am 100% sold on its value!This thing is well built, durable and easy to use. It honestly isn't that cumbersome to store, and for traveling it won't be a problem to fit this into a suitcase and pack around and inside it.You may need to do some experimentation to figure out how it works best for you. In my case, with some severe mobility issues, I found that the instructions to put the sock's heel at the top of the center semicircle just didn't work for me. I pull my sock clear through, then push down the toe just a bit to create a small pocket. Then I hold down the frame with one foot to keep it stable (back and hip pain prevents me from holding the handles for this step) while inserting the other foot into the sock. Except using THIS tool is more difficult than putting on the support stockings in the first place!We purchased this mostly for my wife's benefit, but I sometimes wear support stockings, too, and I was happy to spend a few bucks -- hoping that using it would make putting on the stockings easier (and have a side benefit: fewer broken fingernails . . . one of the support-stocking hazards).NO SUCH LUCK in making donning the stocking easier, for the following reasons:-- It's extremely difficult to stretch a support stocking over the frame; can't speak for what it's like with those white things they give you at the hospital, but it's really a challenge to stretch a normal support stocking (I have them in about four different levels of elasticity and they all were difficult to get on the frame).--One needs to have the foot of the stocking at just the right spot or it will go on your foot incorrectly, and even with practice it's tough to get the foot positioned correctly.--Once it's on the frame, one almost needs to climb on a ladder to get one's foot high enough to fit into the stocking on the frame.In short, the people who MOST need help putting on support stockings won't benefit from this "tool" unless they have a keeper/helper, because the TOOL is difficult to use.Because I have missed the "return window," we will keep this thing and I might go back to using it on occasion, but my wife will NEVER use it.Morals of the story -- when Amazon tells you something is a "frequently returned item," run from it!
