Since my chickens are still pullets and new to laying I added nesting material and fake eggs to encourage them. Obviously the nesting material prevents the roll away feature. After they had been laying for several weeks I started removing the nesting material from one box every week or so. I am now down to only one box with nesting material. The eggs roll away perfectly in the boxes where I removed the nesting material.
