You must join together on a quest to find the treasure of legendary pirate one-eyed willy so that you can save your homes from demolition you will need to keep your wits about you and use your unique skills to avoid one-eyed willy's booby traps and also stay one step ahead of the frat Ellis, a family of criminals intent on claiming the treasure for themselves. As players, you will each represent a member of the goonies and you must all work together as a team. Unlike in most games, in the goonies: Adventure card game, players do not take individual turns. You will collectively pool your cards to take team actions, working each turn to clear obstacles, move between locations, evade the frat Ellis and map a path to the ship of one-eyed willy. To win, you must discover the gem at each of the five locations and successfully store them along the paths you've previously mapped. Conceptually more appealing, could’ve been a more classic board, moving your character pieces through the movies visually fun locales, whilst including the card elements that are actually present. Not being much of a card player, or tabletop player, rapidly growing my collection of these sorts of games, has definitely been a study in dynamics and themes.I have to say specifically, I am attracted to this new wave of movie based games, like The Thing, Labyrinth, Dark Crystal..All of which seem determined to give you not only interesting playtime, but give you, your moneys worth with artwork, boards, and beautiful collections of figurines. Incredible display pieces representing my favorite movies of the past.But then there’s this game, and there’s no comparison to the work put into the others.This is your average card game with a single player solitaire style, which was part of the attraction. You repeatedly try to clear up your layout of location and treasure cards, which at first seems easy, and I’m sure with more players would move lightning quick.But as a solitary player, I found myself realizing I was making bad choices, but the stakes get higher every turn. You make four actions, you draw cards, you discard used ones, and you elevate the situation by adding a card that you also have to clear, which can lead to trouble. It took me an hour to remember everything, and keep proper track of where I was in my turn.It might’ve been around 3 hours of play altogether, which is time well spent, but I was getting bored in the last 40 minutes. Though interested in diving back in, with a clearer conscious. Is it worth $30? No, maybe $20, and I’d feel more at home. There is just not enough in the box to justify that price. Considering, I just paid the same for the Dark Crystal game, and all that detail that comes with it, again doesn’t even compare.. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very pleasantly surprised. Highly recommended for single player. *by M***S on March 17, 2018* Just read the rules in relatively short amount of time (under an hour). This game is very unique. I've never played anything like it and I've played hundreds of board and card games. I was testing out the single player version and it is fantastic. Love it. I just played it all day by myself (with the Goonies soundtrack playing in the background). I can't explain it but with a minimal amount of narrative this game still captures a sense of urgency that resembles the movie. Solo play using 4 characters at once is the way to go. Now having played Solo with the maximum amount of characters I kind of wonder if this game will be very good with 3 or 4 players. This may be one of those unique times where less is more for a board game. The cooperation is based on a plan a turn or two in advance and multiple options are available at any given time. I could see that if you play with a large group that the quickest witted will quickly make all of the decisions. Single player is fantastic though. 2 players may be fun but there still will be a tug of war deciding where to go and when... as well as what cards to play. Hey, if your friends don't like it, play it alone! Ha! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for Fans *by J***L on January 30, 2017* Fun game full of nostalgia. If you love The Goonies then this a great game. Easy to learn and fun to play. I'd say its definitely a game for fans of the movie.
