Works well and is durable.
I use this on an AR-15 hunting hogs and such at night. I've had the same one for over 6 years and have been hunting about 1,000 nights with it (I have many places nearby to hunt...it's easy to get out several nights a week if not nightly). The mount has worn and doesn't *click* into place anymore, it just slides on but it stays. It sometimes falls off when I lay the rifle next to a hog for a proof picture and I've had to walk back to find it (thank God). I've hung it crossing barbed wire fences but it's still in great shape. I reload so losing brass in fields isn't conducive to that; this is worth it's weight in gold. The quick on-off is great for stowing the rifle in my truck and not lying on a weird angle. I just bought a second one to rig up a day rifle...yeah, I like these catchers. I tried a velcro attached unit from Caldwell for awhile but I hated it...although a friend I hunt with likes his velcro unit just fine.

Solid option. Much better than cheap versions.
Got this the day before i took it out to the range. Much better than the last one I tried. The cheap Chinese brass catcher I accidently bought didn't work whatsoever. Constant stove-piping with that item. No feeding problems with this one. This item looks well constructed and functions normally. No feeding issues. Holds more cases than I can affordably shoot in a day and adjusted perfectly even with my 1 piece scope mount. I have a nicon scope mount and I didn't think this would adjust to fit but it fit well with adjustment to spare. The picures can be a little confusing but there is one movable bracket that moves roughly 5" from one end of the catcher to the other and helps with making the bag fit to your rifle. No feeding issues, cases went right into the bag. I moved the bag closer and farther from the receiver with no noticeable difference in operation. Seems to hold more rounds than most people would want it to before emptying. Only issue is that the adjustment screws for the bracket that connects to the rail adapter come loose quickly. Even when loose it works and kind of almost makes it easier to take off and put back on constantly (range shooting) but the screws will need to be lock tighted to keep them from coming too loose and possibly falling out. I noticed one of the vet shooter's at my range using this model. Everything I've seen tells me this is a solid purchase.

works great
I put this on my ar10. it was easy to mount, and it works great.

Perfect for a one gun bag. Works excellent
Great catcher, well made, but two things keep it from the fifth star. 1. This catcher would be "king of the hill" if it came with or additional mounts were offered/standard. On any given range day I'll have at least three rifles in various calibers, switching the mount between rifles isn't practical, which brings me to problem #2. The mounting fastener is EXTREMELY soft aluminum. They aren't rugged enough for constant changes, these need to be steel. Caldwell, are you listening? Steel fasteners and offer a minimum of three mounts. I'm here looking at buying the competitions product on the mount issue alone.

Caldwell brass catcher on a AR-10
The Caldwell brass catcher works perfectly on my AR-10. Saves me a lot of time as I am not looking for my brass. I've had it to the range a couple of times and I have yet to see any of the melting issues others have had. I also shoot 10 to 20 rounds at a time more precision than rapid pace.

Perfect for reloaders -- fits great on Sig 556xi
The Caldwell Pic Rail Brass Catcher is an excellent gift/accessory for a reloader. I use it on my Sig 556xi. Every spent 5.56/.223 case is caught neatly in the mesh bag so that I can reload it again. No more bending over and hunting around in the grass for spent cases! Initially, I was worried that the metal frame of this brass catcher might dent the cases (they eject very vigorously from my Sig), but so far it hasn't been a problem. Out of every 100 rounds, perhaps five casings end up with noticeable dents (presumably from striking the wire frame that holds the mouth of the bag open), but the rest look fine. The included picatinny rail mount locks on solidly, but its edges are sharp. I was able to mount it forward of the charging handle area on my Sig, so it doesn't really get in the way of my hand/knuckles when operating the bolt. Nonetheless, I didn't like having such a sharp-cornered mount so to be safe, I rounded down the edges with a file. Of course, that removes the bluing, so you'll either need to touch it up afterward with some gun blue or just live with the exposed silver edges after filing it. Aside from that quibble, the mounting base is a nice idea, as you can leave it in place on the rail, and then simply slide the catcher bag on and off as desired. When shooting with this catcher in place, the spent cases collect neatly in the bag. It can hold a lot, but one thing to keep in mind is that after you empty a magazine and your bolt locks back, if you tilt the firearm sideways to lay it down on a bench, the casings can spill out of the bag back into the chamber. That means you'll need to clear them when you pick up the firearm to reinsert a magazine to resume shooting. Instead, I open the zipper on the bottom of the mesh bag and leave it open for my entire range session. That way, each spent casing gets ejected into the bag, gets caught and stopped by the mesh, and then drops straight down onto the benchtop where I'm shooting. This method makes it easy to collect all of my casings, without needing to periodically empty the bag or be annoyed by casings spilling back into the chamber when the Range Officer calls a cold condition and I have to lay the rifle down. So far, I find this the most convenient way to use this catcher. What more can I say? If you're a reloader and you want to eliminate the tedium or effort of bending over to look for and retrieve your spent brass, then BUY THIS CATCHER! If you're NOT a reloader, but you want to save your back from the strain of bending over repeatedly to clean up your spent brass at the range, then BUY THIS CATCHER! True, you could probably jury-rig something for less money, but this catcher is well made, attaches securely to the rail, detaches from the mounting base easily, and looks nicer than what most folks would be able to cobble together on the cheap. I think it's worth the price. Highly recommended!

Nice product, albeit I made a slight modification
This is by far a better brass catcher than Caldwell's cheaper alternative, the main problem with the cheap one is that the way it's designed, the brass is more apt to bounce off the netting and back into the ejection portal causing jams, and more apt to snag and melt. This can still happen with this product, but less frequently. My solution was to buy some Kydex at a craft store and taking a small piece of Kydex about the size of a playing card. Heated it up with a torch (A BIC lighter works as well) then forming the Kydex to have a slight angle, then I used .99 cent fabric glue and a little two part epoxy to glue my Kydex insert to the inside of the bag directly opposite of the ejection port to deflect the rounds down into the bag. This also prevent the bag from getting burned as the Kydex deflector gives the round the split second it needs to slightly cool and less apt to melt. The best ammo catchers are normally always ridged and don't employ netting. But this slight modification that costs next to nothing allows at least one benefit of a ridged brass catcher, while still keeping the brass catcher light and maneuverable due to the netting being flexible and lightweight. As far as the brass catcher goes, the mounting mechanism is very good and it's low profile allows me to mount my Leupold scope or Eotech while still using the brass catcher. The brass catcher also is great that it can disconnect in seconds from the picatilly rail and should you want to put it back on, it goes on quickly.

In use this is great, no problems catching brass or causing ejection problems
Mount fits to rifle on upper rail ok, and I then had to adjust the attachment point to one end of the catcher and adjust the shape of the opening a little to ensure it covered the ejection port to catch the brass. The frame is a fairly solid wire, so it will bend (not easily) and maintained shape with no issues. In use this is great, no problems catching brass or causing ejection problems, or problems with hot brass melting anything. I also like the fact that it clips on and off the mount quickly and easily, so checking and showing the gun is clear is not a problem. The only problem I have is why did I not get one sooner, as I am no longer chasing brass. I intend to purchase an additional mount for another gun, so I can just leave the one catcher in my rang bag and use on two guns. If your tired of chasing brass, especially if you reload, buy one. The one suggestion I would have is ensure you have a rail close enough to the ejection port to enable correct positioning.
