First of all, they're great for emergencies. The day I got them our electricity went out on the entire street. Even the street lights were out. The house was pitch black. These little guys made the hours of waiting bearable for us. We were able to play board games with them. However, the reason I purchased them was for a DIY flea trap. They're so much safer than using tea lights and much brighter, attracting more fleas. We used aluminum pie tins, some Dawn and water and positioned the lamp facing down to the tin. Went to bed and the next day the tins were filled with fleas. This was a lifesaver for us. Because they're cordless we can put them anywhere. Great purchase at a great price.Update: These were perfect for when Hurricane Irma came by our area. No power for 6 days. I also purchased a 30 bulb LED lamp that uses D cell batteries, thinking it would be brighter but amazingly it is not. These 12-bulb lamps use 3 AA batteries and are NOTICEABLY brighter with a more focused beam than the larger, heavier 30 bulb lamp. People save your money and get this double pack of better lights. They are designed to be easily picked up by hand; the on-off button is on top of the base making it easy to access by pressing down on it (no need to pick up the lamp to access the button), and the lamps are bright. I put a lamp near the back of the TV so I can illuminate the back to see where to attach cables, I put lamps near computer monitors for the same reason, and I put them in dark closets or cabinets to use when I am looking for something (but these lamps are directional, not the kind of lamps that fill the closet with light).
