The velcro has an end toggle on it as well so it won't fly off when loosening. I use these while dirtbiking so they see a fair bit of sweat and grime. Easy to clean off and holding up well. Comfy too. The whole band is soft, very short fuzzy stuff that the velcro locks onto. It also has a bit of stretch to so pinching/constriction of my wrist hasn't been an issue either. No more slippery strap end flapping around while trying to get the peg in the right hole. The hook and loop fabric makes it so much easier, and the bar at the end of the strap keeps it from coming all the way off. The bar does stick out a little but not so much that it affects anything. I wear my watches on the inside of my wrist.
