They stay up nicely because you screw in a pole on the top and there are indents in the wood where the 2 pieces fit nicely together. **Q: does the tepee fold up for storage?** A: You can’t fold it once it’s put together, but there is a bag to store the parts in when you take it a part. **Q: Could an adult and one year old lay in here and read together?** A: Yes, the adults legs would stick out though. **Q: Can I add my own fabric? Is so what’s the dimensions?** A: I’m sure you could as long as you can sew.
