I’m a teacher and use these pens daily and have refilled them at least ten times. I use the bullet tip ones and they write just as well as my new back up set and write great. I think Pilot says to refill only four times so they can sell more marker sets. **Q: Do these markers contain xylene?** A: According to the pilot web page even their permanent refillable marker is xylene free. These don't have an odor really, and since Xylene is a volatile chemical paint thinner, I think you would smell it. In fact from scoping out their products again to answer this question, it looks like they've removed it even from their standard product line. These white board markers work better than any conventional white board marker I've used. I'm still on my first ink fill and they write beautifully. **Q: Are these markers toluene-free?** A: I think it's a fair guess that they do not have it, although their only description says that they "meet the ISO 14001 and 14021 standards" which do not say they are free of compounds of that nature. If the question is: do the markers smell? Then no. If your question is: are they permanent marker like in any way? Then no. If the question is for some kind of allergy then I would politely direct you to http://pilotpen.us/faqs where you will probably need to e-mail customer service technician to ask such a specific question. **Q: is this marker suitable to write/to be erased from glass?** A: It erased very clean from my white board so I would assume yes. Most dry erase work just fine on smooth clean glass.
