I cleaned it off and seasoned them with oil, but I wasn’t completely comfortable putting food directly on the metal just yet. That’s why I bought these BBQ mats — and I’m glad I did. They work really well. You obviously need to use them after the flames have died down (they're heat-resistant but shouldn’t be exposed to direct flames), but once you're cooking over embers or steady heat, they're perfect. I specifically chose these over cheaper supermarket versions because I was looking for a higher-quality Teflon coating. Some low-grade non-stick coatings are known to be carcinogenic, and I did a bit of research — these ones came out better than most. There are only a few brands I’d trust in that regard, and this was one of them. So far, they’ve held up well and given me peace of mind while cooking.
