The cards are a deck of 60 cards (56 creature cards, one cover/checklist card and three license card). I've moved from DMing with 5 books open and a DM screen down to simplicity. I prepare with lots of material, from history books, to books from other games, monster manuals from other games, etc. - but when I'm at the table I just have a small notepad, some dice, and that's it. These cards are a great way to have monster info without having the Manual present. I can easily just tuck these cards into my notebook or a folder and keep this simple - just the monsters I need or might use.That being said - a design flaw does reveal itself. Since there is art on the back of the card, with stats on the other side... it kind of ruins my ability to leave the cards face down on the table and keep the beasties a secret. One side has the name and stats - the other shows the monster! Using a medusa? how convenient is it to have to hide BOTH sides of the card or it ruins the surprise? While I understand the efficiencies of real estate - a picture on one side and info on the other - in practicality, it can be a detriment to use. At least how I am using the cards... and for familiar monsters.
