Great for sax reed shaving!
I use this for shaving my saxophone reeds. For this, it is awesome! Works just as good as the ReedGeek at a fraction of the cost. It is an effortless way to fine tune your reeds for the best sound. I highly recommend this product!

An Alternative to 'Shave' Saxophone Reeds With
This is what I use to 'file' my natural Saxophone reeds with - for Consistentcy! (yeah, it's a thing). It has small burs on each edge. That edge, when used lightly, shaves the reed. The reed's edges should be tapered to a consistent wings shape while the center 'v' shape is thicker. There is a quality commercial steel tool available for this that has specific edges to use and there is another small file that comes with a textured piece of glass for filling the backs flat. But for me, this piece of stainless steel is cost effective, works well and will last for ever. It's normally used with a CNC machine, but it works for filing Sax reeds too! That makes it perfect for this task!

Old School Cobalt Rocks!
I Purchased this 1/2 x 1/2 x 6 HSS with cobalt as it was the go to when making a carbide tool would be more time consuming or costly. I hand ground the tool until I had a 40 degree angle point as I have been doing for 40+ years, then finished with a diamond hone. Once in place, it cut a Poly-V groove into the 5" dia. 6061 T6 alum like butter- Keep the cutting oil flowing too! Choosing the 6 inch tool bit insured it would be held more securely in the tool post holder. 5 stars.

Very good quality.
Very good cutter. I was having dificulty on a project that required the facing and drilliinng of an inductioned hardened steel part. I coulld cut the non hardned portion with my regular cutting tools, but when I got to the harrdened portion, it wouuld wipe out my cuttinng insert. After going through several cuttinng inserts, I ordered this cuting bar. I put a profile on it with a grinding wheel, and was able to finish facing my parts. However, I had to go back to my grinder several times to put a new edge on the cuter before finishing the two pieces. BUTT - that is the benifit of using this type of cutter - you can resharpen it, and with it's length, you can do this many, many times. I am still trying to find drill bits to perform the drillinng portion of my work, and have found no solution yet (M42 colbalt biits are not workng). (Just for info - the parts are stub axles, cut off of CV axle shafts for a Toyota Tacoma 4x4)
