## Description

The Samburu tribe who inhabit Kenya's rugged northern frontier are a tall, lean people who eke out a living as semi-nomadic herders of sheep, goats, donkeys, camels and cattle. The warriors of the tribe known as "Lmurran" are particularly impressive, as they never cut their long braided hair and decorate their faces and torsos in beautifully intricate patterns using a cosmetic mixture made from animal fat and red ochre. Since their flocks and herds are constantly menaced by predators and subject to raids by lawless "Shiftas" (bandits) from Somalia, they seldom venture outside their "Kraals" (a kind of makeshift hut) without being thoroughly armed. In fact, no warrior worthy of his name would think of being caught without his spears. You see, the Samburu warrior's seven foot long throwing spear is the most advanced, state of the art spear of its type on the planet. With this extraordinary spear, warriors routinely dispatch marauding leopards, lions and even firearm toting bandits at unheard of distances. Each of our Samburu spears break down into three components: The first is the spear head itself, permanently welded to a thick steel shaft. Second is the counter balancing butt spike also known as the shoe. This is used as an alternative point for practice throwing, preserving the actual spear blade itself for more serious work. Third is the black, U.S. Made Hickory handle with a double taper connecting the head and shoe. The Samburu spears come unassembled for ease of transportation. All you have to do is fit the blade and butt spike tightly to the handle and attach them with the provided retaining screws. They come complete with a Secure-Ex sheath. These spears could be described as the 300 Winchester Magnum of the spear world. They can be used at long range, fly straight, have a flat trajectory, hit hard and penetrate deep. Like the 300 Win Mag, they can be used to take any animal in North America. NOTE: We've made our Samburu spears as tough as possible. However, if you bend your spear shaft or "shoe" (butt spike), it can be easily straightened in a vise or with a hammer, and the tough hickory handle of your spear can eventually break, so please be prepared to replace it.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: If this is a cold steel product then why is it cheaper on here than their website**
A: Cold Steel is a manufacturer. If manufacturers undersold their retailers their retailers would not be able to sell the product and wouldn't make any money. Soon they would no longer be retailers for those products.

**Q: how long is the spike (shoe) and it's diameter**
A: The spike is 27 7/8" long from tip of shoe to the tip. Steel shaft diameter is .385" or a bit over 3/8". Wood handle is 5/8" diameter. Spear shaft tip to shoe tip is 26 1/4" Overall length 6' 9 1/4", .275" less than advertised/specified. I would not trust this with my life against large game and if you do, you had better be a fast runner.

**Q: Has anyone glued this together rather than use the screws? A good gorilla glue rather than weakening the wood with even small holes seems better.**
A: I had thought about gluing the handle into the spear sockets but, after reading some of the reviews about how the handle had broken off when thrown at a hard target, I decided to just use the small screws to secure the handle to the shaft. That way, if the handle should break, all I would have to do is unscrew the handle and replace it instead of trying to bore out the broken handle and scrape the wood & glue out of the socket. I hope this helped you.

**Q: What is the diameter of the pole? For each segment. Looking to mount on the wall.**
A: its tapered to the ends.. its almost 3/4 of an inch mid way

    Superb!

Durable, accurate/well balanced and an unrivaled attack power. I hit a 10” camping spike from 20’ and made a 1/4” deep gash on it. The blade was totally unaffected! Amazing spear from a solid company is just a no-brainer. This thing deserves 6 stars IMO

It's weight and balance makes it relatively easy to learn to throw and throw accurately

*by H***E on Reviewed in the United States on 10 January 2015*

I bought this spear to compliment Cold Steel's long shaft Assegai. I use the Assegai spear more for relatively up close work and short throws. The Sambub Spear is truly designed to be thrown. It's weight and balance makes it relatively easy to learn to throw and throw accurately. Both end pieces are made of steel and these parts are joined with a hardwood, tapered handle. To assemble take either the front or back end and slide the tapered handle into the tapered "cone" on the part you selected. Make sure that the handle is pushed into the socket as far as it will go.Find the hole in the metal socket. At this point you can do one of three things.1. Mark the hole in the handle, remove the handle and use a drill press or hand drill to make the hole. NOTICE***I recommend that you remove the handle before drilling. The drill bit should be one (1) size smaller than the drill bit that fits into the screwhole on the funnel. Drill the hole about 3/4 the length of the screw. Repeat on the other end. This is the procedure that I recommend.2. With the handle inserted in the cone, drill an approximate sized hole in the shaft being careful to only drill the hole about 3/4 the length of the screw. Repeat on the other end.3. With the handle in the cone, take your screw and screwdriver and "force" the screw into the screw hole, breaking the surface fibers of the wood. Continue screwing until the screw is flush with the metal cone. Repeat on other end. When you first go to throw this spear you will notice that the handle is a little "slick" which could interfere with your throw. I recommend that you go to the hardware store and buy a can of "textured" spray paint. Pick a color(s) that will compliment the area where you intend to hunt. You can also paint the metal parts of the spear, just go lightly so you don't throw off the balance of the spear.Let's talk about the quality of the spear. The spear is 1055 carbon steel. When I took the cover off and inspected the spearhead it was definitely sharp. If you don't treat this with respect it might just bite you. Although pretty sharp I recommend that you sharpen the spearhead to the finest edge that you are capable of doing. Animal hides are resilient and if you don't have a sharp spearhead the spear may not go into the animal deeply enough to cause critical damage. The opposite end, "The Butt End" is also made of 1055 carbon steel. It comes to a fine point. You can use the butt end for practice, saving the actual blade for hunting and/or competition. There is also a short piece of heavy plastic tubing on the butt end to protect the tip and to minimize damage to floors, carpets, etc. When everything else fails (running out of ammo) this spear will always be locked & loaded and ready to put some game in the freezer, but only after practicing to build your skill set. You can find a lot of articles and clips on the 'Net to help you leard how to throw this spear.Good Luck to you. I hope my review helped you!
