**Q: what is the syrup-like goo that forms at the hilt on these knives?  I have had one for many years and this happens constantly.**
A: I have 3 three different versions of the Spyderco knives and have never experienced anything like what you describe.  Perhaps it is specific to your location - water source, water hardness, etc.  Also, I never wash mine in a dishwasher unless my wife forgets to hand wash them.
