is this D ring reliable? I have used others and they unscrew/open by themselves

it fell apart several times. luckily i found the tiny screw and the accompanying parts.. i had to screw it together. 4 out of 10.

Is this magnetic metal?

No. It’s not magnetic. It is a very nice clip on one end and a screw “clip” or “clamp” on the other with nice braided leather in between. Not magnetic.

Will this work for a bmw x3 2019 fob?

I bought it and use it for a Honda Pilot. Works well.
