Nobody wants older bikes with that feature so it was headed for the dumpster. I was interested when I saw an online video where someone had converted an old bike to a modern handlebar shift using these adapters that screw into the old shifter mounts and anchor the new cables coming from the handlebar. I purchased these and a handlebar shifter/ brake kit on desertcart with cables and it works great! The adapters came with everything needed and fit the tube mounts perfectly. The front and back gears, brakes, and shifting apparatus is unchanged and works fine. Sure, this old steel road bike is heavier than a modern one but for commuting it is perfect! They work great. You also could skip them and use a long cable. **Q: Are these concave or flat? And does it actually have one barrel adjuster and one wing adjuster? Photo shows two barrels.** A: Concave with a square socket that fits over a square brazeone mount. Right and left stops both with gray plastic barrel adjusters. **Q: Does this come with all the hardware you need? i.e. the screws to install on a bike?** A: It came with hardware, but I did not use it. I installed the cable stoops on the existing shift lever studs. I used a locknut instead of the original nuts because I would not need to adjust the like shifter levers do. **Q: can this one patch the hole of my downtube from where the original shifter come from?** A: There should be a brazed-on post that the old shifter was attached to. It is a square piece with a threaded hole. This will fit over it allowing you to run the cable from your brake lever/shifters through this housing, and then to the derailleurs. You will need cable housing from the shifters to this device.
