Krud Kutter Me01 Red Metal Clean And Etch With Bland Odor, 1 Gallon

This product is very good. While it does not clean like the cleaners on facebook, it does a pretty good job without being super toxic. You need to wear googles, gloves and a face mask. Also cover your arms and any exposed skin. I used it on steel gates that were rusted. First a 50/50 mixture of water and product was sprayed on the gates. The product was allowed to work for about 15 minutes. After 15 minutes the power washer was used which did a pretty good job of removing loose paint and also rust spots. I did not do any sanding.

Did exactly what it’s supposed to do

Worked well to prep new galvanized metal fence for paint. I purchased Hutchison Western Wire Cattle Panels from Tractor Supply. The Krud Cutter, applied at 2:1 "for heavy corrosion" for ten minutes turned the silver, smooth galvanizing medium grey and a little rough. I had the six panel stacked together, horizontally, on 2x4's and sprayed them every 2-3 minutes. Krud Kutter did not remove the "white rust", although that might have come off if I had followed the rinse with a pressure washer. To prevent paint peeling, I abraded the fence panel on both sides with Scotch-Brite Extra Heavy Duty Pot 'N Pan Pad 88. I clamped six pads between two pieces of wood and dry scoured each fence panel for about ten minutes. Then rinsed the panels clean with water and put the panels in the sun to dry quickly. The white rust was gone. I wish I had used the abrasive pad before using the Krud Kutter; I may have removed some of the roughness I created with the Krud Kutter. That "surface profile" help paint adhere tightly. I primed with Sherwin-Williams Pro Industrial Pro-Cryl Universal Acrylic Primer. It adhered very well. I read that alkyd paint or primer will not work on galvanized metal because of saponification, whatever that is.

This stuff worked great to clean a bunch of galvanized metal panels so they'd be ready for primer and then paint. It also goes a long way, I didn't realize when ordering that you dilute it 3:1 before spraying on, I bought two gallons but didn't come close to using one gallon! This stuff will also kill weeds in your yard (and probably grass if you're not careful) if you have spray left over, it's no joke!

This stuff works great! Especially on bare bead blasted metal ! it makes a great base for paint, I've even not used primer on small parts many times and the chip resistance is awesome. Soak bare steel long enough in krud kutter and it will turn black that won't rub off (at least in my experience). If I could, I'd give this product 6 stars. :-)
