So, in this case, the spine is a bit under an inch. The jaws have a capacity a bit over an inch. For my purposes, the next size up was better. I think those would be called XXL. I had some old ones, but had purchased XL thinking that was big enough. It wasn't. Not for my original purpose. They are great, though for all sorts of special uses if you track down some fancy, creative web pages for that type of thing. **Q: made where?** A: Who cares?
