I have used it in all three modes: heat source from the top, heat source from the bottom, and heat source from both top and bottom. All successful. However with my oven there is a variation in the temperature which is why I have given it only 4 stars. If using the heat from either just the top or just the bottom, the temperature is hotter than indicated so turn the temperature dial down. (eg. if you want 180 then put it at 150). If you use both top and bottom heat together, the temperature is accurate. When using the oven at the beginning I recommend you stay nearby to make adjustments. Once you have learned how your thermostat works then its a great little oven.
