Very stiff leather. Make sure your handles are put in the pouch and not the blades ad they will puncture the stitching. I filled it up and this is my second one to accommodate all of my tools. If I could give one critique, I'd prefer double stitching on the bottom of the pouches. Secondly, id spread the pouches a little bit further apart, perhaps 1/8 of an inch. My chip carving knives ij one pouch touch sometimes depending on how I roll and they slide so I put some covers on the blade to protect them and the leather. That said, it makes the roll a little fatter and little stiffer (additional 1/8 inch between would remedy this think).
