But in picking out certain topics, I can see that this author knows their stuff, and more importantly knows how to convey information in a straight forward matter-of-fact manner. It's one thing to know it for yourself and it's quite another to be able to convey that to someone else. I haven't watched the DVD but I look forward to delving into this level of sewing for haute couture. The diagrams in this book are clear, and self explanatory. It clearly shows various stitches for hand sewing and various techniques for stitching hand worked button holes. I highly recommend this information ONLY if you are ready to go into a much deeper commited level (if not time consuming)of sewing. I think it is its OWN REWARD. The are abundant pictures and the directions are clear and concise. This book focuses in on specific areas of tailoring and details those areas precisely. They are buttonholes, patch pockets, interfaced hems, converting darts to ease, tailored sleeves, fly zipper closure and measuring for trouser hems. The final chapter takes a look at what are the characteristics of a couture garment.
