I wanted something to insert in the half size fireplace to hold candles.This fit the bill - it holds 12 candles so it makes a lot of light and throws off a little heat. I've searched around for a while for something like this, and most were a lot more money. I couldn't be happier. Standard fireplaces are large, but in the city many are half size, so for a small fireplace this is the correct size about 12", it even fits perfectly in the metal pit that would normally hold real logs. I guess if you had a normal size fireplace this might look out of place. That's why I am bummed to give it 4 stars. It's kind of a creepy flesh color and the painting overall is cheesy looking. Far away it looks super cute and is the perfect size. However product was defective. The holes for the candle are cut at a angle. The leading front edge was too shallow so the candle just slid out. If it was burning the wax would pour out over the front of the logs. The color was not like birch but the color of putty. That being said it will work for my small faux fireplace. The others insert logs are too long for it and cost too much for me at between 50 to 80 dollars. I will work with it using hot glue and some paint. And I am sure I can make it acceptable.
