I've seen other versions break when being pulled on but not to say how they did it wasn't abuse. I've never had a need to pull on mine. Yet I've hit some polls and such and never had an issue. **Q: got a 2 1/2 version?** A: You just need a sleeve adapter to neck the 2.5 down to the 2 in size for the step **Q: Where is it made?** A: I don’t know but it is made of great quality. It’s solid steel. Best step I’ve bet seen. **Q: Does it deform in the case of a rear end collision ? Or does it increase the risk of hitch whiplash?** A: It depends on how hard you are hit. I do not believe it will bend unless you are hit by someone going over 40mph while you are at a stop. Whiplash?
