## Description

Water Filtration System

Review: No More Lead and Chlorine and the Water Tastes Great!!! - I live in London (where water is said to have passed through many people before it got to you) in a Victorian terrace house that is divided into flats. I can't replace the lead water supply pipe from the street as the owner of the flat above me lives abroad and can't be bothered with the expense of replacing the pipe. The water from my kitchen tap has always tasted unpleasant and, with the added lead issue, it ended with my dental hygienist telling me I was far too dehydrated. She told me to get a water filter and so I went with a Berkey, as I wanted something that stands alone and doesn't involve complicated machinery under the sink. Also, I liked the idea that it was gravity-fed and didn't require electricity to work, unlike water distilling machines. I have to say that I am incredibly impressed with the result. They are finding plastic particles in mountain streams in Scotland and the Lake District, so no water in the UK can be considered "100% pure" but with my Berkey the filtered water has no taste of chlorine and no "mankiness" in general. The other day, I drank a glass of water from the kitchen tap without thinking and the horrible taste of it was a shock. I used to have to drink tea and coffee to mask the taste but now I have at least one glass of filtered water for every tea or coffee that I drink and I'm feeling and looking better for it. I still use the kitchen tap for the washing up and cleaning but for everything else, drinking and cooking, I use water from my Berkey. Lead pipes... copper pipes... plastic pipes... they will all have issues and the information that comes with the filter tells us that the Berkey can filter approximately 99% of pollutants (please check the info for the actual details), so I will be having a Berkey in my kitchen at any future property that I move to, even if I'm living in a less-polluted part of the country like Dartmoor. I have a couple of caveats. I have only had my Berkey for a couple of months, so I don't know how easy it is to clean the ceramic filters and I don't know how often they need to be replaced. As we saw with the Volkswagen "Diesel-gate" scandal, it is common practice for companies to be "economical with the actualité" and the filters may have to be replaced earlier than the company says. I won't know for a year or two or three. However, for clean, potable, odour-free water...? In my experience, the Berkey has genuinely been worth the initial expense (it has been cheaper than paying a builder to dig up my front yard and replace the feeder pipe) and I won't balk at the expense of getting new filters when the time comes. Other people who have purchased it complain that not all the water drains from the tanks due to how the ceramic filters and the spigot are placed but I have no issue with this. The small amount of unfiltered water that can't drain out of the top tank is poured into the sink and the small amount of filtered water in the bottom tank gets poured into a jug I keep in the fridge. It's very easy to manage. I just need to add that the advice on assembling the Berkey isn't very clear, especially the part about how you "prime" the ceramic filters. So I recommend that you look at videos on YouTube where people show you how to do it. Once the details are clear, it takes just a few minutes. BTW, after having my Berkey for 3 months, my dental hygienist is really impressed with the results. I am now properly hydrated and the water I drink has less calcium in it thanks to the Berkey, so I have much less tartar on my teeth than I used to.
Review: Filter Great - Easy setup. Filtration is great. Water tastes ok but not great. I purchased as disaster tool to convert non drinkable water to drinkable

## Features

- ENJOY GREAT-TASTING TAP WATER EVERY DAY AT HOME- The 2.25-gallon Big Berkey System can be used on a countertop in your kitchen or office to transform tap water into delicious drinking water that's also ideal for making your favorite beverages or cooking.
- INDEPENDENT TESTING- Black Berkey Elements (the original BB9-2) are composed of a unique, proprietary blend of multiple media types backed by testing from accredited, third-party labs. Black Berkey Elements remove or dramatically reduce over 250+ typical contaminants that could be present in freshwater sources—no electricity, tools, or plumbing are required.
- INCLUDES AUTHENTIC BLACK BERKEY ELEMENTS (THE ORIGINAL BB9-2)- Don't fall for lookalike filters that use our Berkey BB9-2 model number or trademarks in their titles or product descriptions to legitimize their brand as replacements or "compatible", when they are not. Black Berkey Elements are designed to work synergistically and target specific contaminants that far exceed the reduction capabilities of black filters solely composed of activated carbon.
- ECONOMICAL, LONG-LASTING- Black Berkey Elements provide filtered water for just pennies per gallon. Each pair of Black Berkey Elements lasts for up to 6,000 gallons before replacement is recommended. Elements may require replacement sooner based upon the quality of influent water. Each additional pair of Black Berkey Elements (sold separately) adds an additional 6,000 gallons of contaminant reduction.
- THE GOLD STANDARD IN GRAVITY-FED WATER FILTRATION- Authentic Black Berkey Elements are capable of greater contaminant reduction and a longer lifespan than virtually any of the other filter elements on the market. Berkey systems are simple and easy to use and require no electricity, costly installation, or tools, providing economical, long-lasting water filtration for just pennies a gallon.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: does it take out 99.9999 of contaminates including radioactive elements**
A: In an independent test done last year, the Black Berkey filter elements with the PF-2 attachments filtered out the following:Uranium: 100%Lead: 100%Mercury: 99.8%Cesium: 98.6%Aluminum: 86.6%Copper: 100%Arsenic: 100%Strontium: 100%Cadmium: 100%The test they performed in this case was only for heavy metals, so it of course filters out much more than just these things, as shown in other tests. This just highlights the heavy metals. Hope this helps!

**Q: How often are filter changes required under normal city water conditions?**
A: It depends on how much water you filter & how many filters you use (2 or 4). Also, normal city water varies due to local water hardness. We fill up the filter 1 to 2 times per day (usually twice) with 4 & change them every 6 months, but if we didn't have kids, our filters would probably last us about twice as long. However, this is still cheaper than other filtering methods we've used & does a much better job.

**Q: How does Calif prop 65 relate to this product??**
A: There's plastic in it (the screws) so that sets off prop 65. The Plastic itself is safe but in the manufacturing some things are used that aren't. Prop 65 is waay too vast to be useful.

**Q: Do the black filters remove lead?**
A: Tests show the Black Berkey filters remove up to 95% of lead and a host of other heavy metals.
