CasaCam VS1002 Wireless Security Camera System with HD Spotlight Cameras and 7" Touchscreen Monitor (2-cam kit)

This is a very nice system. I needed a live camera feed to monitor the rear entrance of a refugee hostel. The camera and monitor are very easy to setup and the picture quality is excellent in both daylight and low light. I didn’t need to activate the camera LED illumination. Motion sensitivity is excellent and the camera buffers the video recording to ensure that a few seconds prior to the motion event are stored. This is a very important feature (see my later comment on Arlo). The touch screen is not as sensitive as a smart phone but is more than adequate for the features. I like the two way audio. The only small gripe is the dual function standby/power switch has too short a time difference between pressing it momentarily to turn the video display off but event recordings are still made, and power-off which then occurs if the power button is held for more than half a second or so more. Power-on requires the button to be pressed for at least five seconds. Presumably this minor issue could be fixed with a software update. A network connection is not needed which was an important criterion to protect privacy of the refugees. The networking is needed to monitor the system via the CasaCam app. The app works quire well but I noticed a few glitches when viewing event recordings remotely. Overall I liked this system and bought another one for my home to complement an Arlo system which misses events as the battery powered cameras take too long to start recording. I contacted CasaCam customer support to ask a technical question and I was impressed with their fast response which has been noted by other reviewers. I attach a picture which shows the camera installation along with a simple aluminum shade that I made to shield the camera from the sun to ensure maximum life of the camera in its very hot full sun location in southern Texas.

I don't usually leave reviews and this will be my 1st. I recently bought a new house out in the country and though I do love the house I had no good view of the pole barn from inside the house. Put up the 2 cameras, 1 facing the pole barn and the other one at the front door and deck area. 1 week later, monitor alarm went off late at night and someone had rode up on a motorcycle and messing around my pole barn. Ran them off but I would have never known had not been for the cameras. I purchased two more add on cameras to put up at side door and the other for view of the attached garage. The 4th camera motion detection did not seem to be as sensitive as the other 3. Had to be within 5 feet to set off most times. I emailed the seller and couple hours later got an email back telling me they were sorry for the problems and would send me a new camera at no charge. Great tech support. Video quality of cameras are great. I love that they pick up sound. Spot light works great. Cameras already paired with monitor made set up a breeze and pairing my 2 add on cameras to the monitor worked perfect. Love that I can unplug the monitor and take with me through out the house. Charge lasts me 1.5 hrs or so but I just leave it plugged in most of the time. Navigation on monitor is simple and setting adjustments are easy. I don't use high resolution on cameras because low looks great. I do have some trouble losing signal from 2 of the cameras sometimes that are farther away on the side of garage that have to go through 3 walls for signal so I purchased 2 antenna extension cables and just recieved them today to try out. Over all, a great camera system that I am happy I purchased and even more happy with the support and quick response i got on from the seller. I have recommended to all my family

The product seems fine - the true test is after you've had it a few months or even if it lasts a year. Most new items work fairly well. Night vision is better than those I have - as with HD night vision the screen is constantly moving and will look a bit blurred. Spotlight is a nice touch. Edit ... bought two cameras in 2019, a few months apart. One monitor was Fuzzy but overall still worked fairly well. After a few months a storm caused electrical surges which resulted in problems with one monitor - replaced entire set in June 2020. The newer cameras have a wider sight range - very good but - that places sights at least 10 feet further away that it should, not so good - nor is it's motion detection as sensitive as the older model cameras - not so good either. Spotlight makes night vision better -without light as with most cameras night vision is poor. But over all the cameras have a very sturdy frame compared to other all other models in that category - that's an A+. Monitors could use a bit of tweaking - often times they get stuck in a mode and you have to pull out the SD card to turn it off then restart - still overall a B-. Have to add - these newer versions of their cameras have 6 screws outside on the lens which means they will receive moisture. THEY WILL FOG UP & eventually create a big problem - I had to send the one back I started using almost immediately _ with no problem from the manufacturer. January 2022 - monitor problems on the one I bought in 2021 had to replace the set. Noted cameras still have screws I guess that is their design now - the first design without screws were excellent cameras in the rain. With the new design and screws on the lens, I'd advise to put a covering over them or have them in a covered area. Still the sturdiest built camera on the on the market of those kind - and these cameras with this purchase has very good night vision without extra lighting.

I ended up buying the Casacam. It is a monitor that plugs into the wall. It gets charged and you can unplug it like a laptop and walk around with it or place it in another room. I have a smaller house (a ranch) so connection is pretty good. You have to plug the cameras in a wall outlet. I mounted mine above my door bell area and I had to feed the cord into the attic. It was a pain and I got stung by a wasp. Anyways. I ran it down inside the wall to an outlet. I connected the outlet part of the cord to the camera cord and ran it back up. So the plug is connected to the outlet and I made a little sliver so the cord feeds into the wall by the outlet. The outlet and the camera connect in middle. I hope this makes sense. It comes with two cameras so the other one I mounted it over the garage and ran the cord in the attic to the outlet in the ceiling. This is where my garage door is plugged in. On the ceiling. I made a little hole in the ceiling so the cord can pass through. On the cameras, they are a bit bulky. They, however, do a great job. If anyone gets close, the cameras will beep. On the monitor, you can tap the camera screen and it will zone in. When this happens, it opens up the speaker and you can hear the person outside. In this mode, you can hold the bottom button on the right side and speak to the person. I saw my lady neighbor and started speaking to her through the camera. I told her not to let her dog poop om my yard. She answered me back. It was great. The camera screen will turn black and white at night. You can see very well. Once again,if anyone gets close to the camera it will beep AND the cameras have a spot light that turns on automatic if anyone gets close to it. I actually love it. I sit at my couch in my living room which is in the back part of the house and I can see who rings the door bell, if I want to get up, if I want to speak to they through the camera, or exnore them. I also can see with the other camera if anyone drives up or drives by. It comes with a chip so you can also record or take a picture. I have not figured out how to do this but that is on me because I have not read the directions yet. So I do love these camera but it is going to take a little work to set up. You can buy an extention cord if it is not long enough and need more cord to an outlet. I believe the exta cord is $10. I bought one. Overall, great produce. Oh yes. You do not need wifi. They work without it. You can, however, put it to wifi and have it connect to your smart phone. I habe not done it. Once again, I have read the dirrections yet. I think that pretty much covers it.

Just received my set with 2 cameras and a monitor. Of course I rushed to open it and I was eager to test out the range. So we live in a old house in upstate NY, it's not a concrete/cement or brick house, but a regular USA/Canadian separate private house (probably 99% of those in US/Canada). I plugged camera in outlet in my living room close to front door and then went behind the house holding a monitor to check range. So camera paired automatically in like 3 seconds when I turned monitor on and live feed was showing already without any setup! That's first thing to like. I went to a fence on our backyard to check range. Live feed was still on monitor with 2 bars showing on signal strength. We don't have big backyard, but there were about 3-4 walls separating camera location and my location behind the house. So signal had to travel about 60ft overall - you might say not much, but it had to travel through living room wall, kitchen wall, washroom wall and finally bedroom wall to get outside of house and to me standing in the backyard at the end of fence. That's about as real as it gets! basically this setup will work in any house (unless you live in huge mansion with 10 acres). I can say that usual normal house will not have any issues. I don't know how it will behave if you lets' say lived in a concrete/cement house that has concrete/cement walls with rebars inside cement - as that's basically a Faradays cage and it will block all signals, wi-fi, phone etc. So that is completely different scenario. But for usual house this setup works perfect and moreover it doesn't interfers with wi-fi I have. I'll update this review as I go along with installation and such, but so far I'm ver ypleased with range and capabilities and ease of setting it up - it's basically very very easy.
