He enjoys talking about where his favourite animals live in the world before he falls asleep at night. We also have friends and family in Scotland, Spain, Italy, Australia, China and the USA, so this has helped him understand how far away from us they are. We use it as the only light in his room at bedtime and it gives off enough soft light to read by as well as providing a great distraction to allow me to leave him - "you look at your globe and i'll be back to check on you in 10 minutes" He's always asleep when I go back in. Because the bulb is so well hidden we can have this right on his bedside table knowing he wont burn himself on it. Its not the greatest in terms that its quite rudimentary - the diagrams are more like illustrations, Wales is a bit squished, and it really only covers the basic animals. Its also a bit difficult to spin but ours may just need oiling or something. Overall a great item for the younger child. Educational, fun and practical! I chose wrong for my needs.
