Works great once paired with a proper TRRS adapter (Windows note)
I bought the V-MODA BoomPro (non-X) because I do not want a dedicated mic on a stand or boom arm, and I wanted to repurpose my Sony WH-1000XM5 instead of buying another gaming headset and adding clutter. Once it is working, the mic is solid for gaming and voice chat, and the inline mute and volume are convenient. The main issue for me was Windows compatibility with the included adapter. It would not work properly on either of my Windows PCs and only worked on my Mac. After a lot of troubleshooting, the only reliable fix was using a dedicated TRRS USB-C adapter. The one that consistently worked for me was the StarTech 5-inch USB-C to 3.5 mm TRRS headset adapter with a 32-bit DAC. I also tried a Creative Sound Blaster Play! 4 USB-C DAC that people recommend, and that still did not solve it. Once I used the proper TRRS adapter, the BoomPro worked fine on Windows. Important clarification: I originally tried the BoomPro X and returned it because it did not work for me. I later learned something else that is worth mentioning for buyers. The BoomPro X’s cardioid mic rejects background noise better, which can be great if you have roommates or a noisy room, but the voice sound quality is noticeably worse in many comparison/review videos. I personally prefer better mic sound and let software (Krisp) handle background noise, but if you need strong noise rejection for voice chat, the BoomPro X may still make sense. Just expect the audio to sound worse. One small tip: adding a cheap foam windscreen helped a lot in Discord. It improved consistent voice pickup and reduced the “choppy” or dropout-like sound my girlfriend and I noticed during testing. Bottom line: the BoomPro is a clean, minimal way to turn compatible headphones into a headset, but do not assume the included adapter will be reliable on every Windows PC. If you are on Windows, budget for a proper TRRS USB-C adapter, and consider a foam windscreen for better voice pickup.

An underrated, misunderstood, great noise cancelling microphone for anyone in a noisy environment.
Hi there! If you're here and are worried about the bad reviews about how this one is worse than the original and even more expensive, then fret not! That's due to a very specific reason and not due to manufacturing quality or V-Moda screwing up. THIS BOOM MICROPHONE ATTACHMENT IS NOT FOR EVERYONE, IT'S MADE FOR THE PEOPLE WHO WORK OR PLAY ON A VERY NOISY ENVIRONMENT. Let me tell you that when you work in the service/call center industry or are managing calls for clients, a company, etc. You want to sound as clear as possible with as little background noise as possible. THIS IS NOT ACHIEVED BY THE ORIGINAL BOOMPRO. The original BOOMPRO has an omnidirectional pattern and that one picks up noise from EVERYWHERE. The reason the original Boompro sounds so good is due to it mic pattern being omnidirectional which is great to capture a voices range and sound better. When you're in a silent or quiet room in general, you're best bet is always going to be the original! Back to the Boompro X model, this one is an UNIDIRECTIONAL microphone which is going to severely limit everything it picks up save for the direction the mic is pointing. That is the reason why the "voice sucks" in this microphone compared to the original. A very small unidirectional microphone IS going to sound more "muffled" and less rich compared to the other omnidirectional one! THIS IS BECAUSE THE AMOUNT OF NOISE THAT GETS INSIDE IS MINIMAL! I made some tests with really loud music beside me and also tried it out already in my noisy office with music, people chatting and noises in general. Whoever is on the other side of the mic is going to hear you CLEARLY! No matter how much noise is going on, they are still going to understand you. If you were with the other original Boompro? No dice, people are going to complain of waayy too much background noise. I own a modest pair of headphones: Audio Technica ATH m20x which I modified (very easy to do) to now have a 3.5 jack instead of soldered cable to the phones. So now I can plug in my Vmoda Boompro X! And let me tell you, There is no call center headset that can beat it at that price and I did my research before buying this. For the price that you pay for the ATH 20x modded with the Boompro X, its the best experience you can have for these types of jobs. The headphones completely cover your ears so its not like those small callcenter headsets. You can block out much noise both in your ears and what the other person hears from you. Well this one is a long review, so to sum it up: BOOM PRO X is AMAZING if you are in a noisy environment and need to be heard without the noise. If you are in a quiet or relatively silent place, the BOOM PRO will be your best bet instead. The BOOM PRO X is an underrated, misunderstood, great noise cancelling microphone for anyone working or playing in a very noisy environment. Anyone who is rating it less didn't read the items description (though the seller could make some changes to make it very clear that there is a difference in voice quality for obvious reasons) but don't worry, its not that the mic is bad, its just that its purpose is different!

Lighter, less components, features, worse audio, just about a downgrade in every way but costs more!
A clear downgrade in everyway from their original BoomPro microphone in every way but the price, you pay more for less! If this is the direction V-Moda is going with their boompro microphones, I'd rather stockpile their original models for the future. This model is roughly 50% louder by comparison in a bad way. The quality for the audio is worse, it sounds like you're talking from a radio in a can full of static. It's smaller, more compact and the sound dial is even more compact. They've made a microphone that's lower in quality by design, less components making it lighter, and just downsizing the entire piece but making you pay 30% more. An abysmal piece of hardware from Vmoda when their original boompro is the best 3.5mm jack on the market with no real competitorr.

Did its job
Bought to use while I was getting an actual mic. I’ve been told the mic sounded a little cheap but that’s to be expected for the price. Over all it was a great buy

Perfect, much better option for calls
I use this for remote work customer service and it works very well with my Beats Studio Pro. I was concerned about voice clarity due to the reviews my voice comes through clearly on the Salesforce soft phone and in Zoom meetings. I even set the voice input to the lowest setting on the computer sound settings to ensure no other noises are picked up and my voice is still CRYSTAL CLEAR. One con so far is that volume controller barely affects volume - turning to the lowest setting doesn’t mute volume and barely lowers it. I was using the original VModa mic attachment for the last couple months since the mics on the Jabra headsets my job sends us keeps malfunctioning, and it worked well but it picked up everything even noises from shifting around in the chair. This newer version still picks up extra loud noises that are up close but it’s much more muted, plus it doesn’t pick up slight noises (like my partner doing dishes in the background) at all. So happy with the purchase and would definitely recommend for others using Beats headphones for soft phone calls through work and Zoom meetings. My partner now uses the older version for gaming and it’s prob the best option for gamers but haven’t tested the new one for gaming yet to say whether it’s good for gaming just yet.

Included Splitter Does Not Work
Mic is pretty good for the price, but the splitter they included is awful. The microphone part of the splitter does not work at all. Horrible quality check for this. My main reason for buying this was for convenience and how cheap it was, so having to get a new splitter on top of that defeats the purpose.

Sounds nasally and too narrow of a pickup range
The build quality is notably worse compared to the original V-Moda BoomPro. There are mold burrs on the rubber-coated connectors, and on the plastic shell of the microphone housing (though to a lesser degree). The quality of the cord is worse than the original. The flexible arm of the original was smooth to the touch, this one had a noticeable sharp edge (presumably leftover from machining) on the metal coil. This was easily rubbed off with a shirt, but indicative of poor post-processing. With the X, they split the cord in half with a connector. I wouldn't mind, but they decided to only use one 90deg connector on the male connector of the microphone's cord, and used a straight male connector on the end of the extension going into the computer. Either put the straight connector in the middle (because I think most people would want to use the extension) and the 90deg on the extension, or use 90deg connectors for both. Now for the worst, the microphone quality. It does a good job of eliminating ambient noise, and it is indeed properly directional. However, it makes me sound like I'm sick with a cold. There also seems to be more static in the background of recordings than what was audible with the original. It is also quieter, and you'll need to increase gain. I do like the size of the inline controller compared to the original. I never used the clip anyway. I miss the volume wheel. My first impression of the slider on the side for volume control was good, it worked and the adjustment seemed "linear". However, when trying to use it, I found myself needing to be very careful about moving it too quickly all the way up or down. When moving it near the edges, there's a slight resistance before it starts to move, so it's easy to "slip" and send the slider flying from high to low or low to high. Very difficult to adjust to, say, 50% volume, as the middle area feels "slippery". I find it impractical unless you intend to leave it in one spot. I rate the original V-Moda Boom Pro at 4.2/5, and this one (X) at 3/5 stars. All said though, I think this has merit in a coffee shop or something where quality is less important than isolation.

If compatible with your headphones, buy.
There are two versions of this mic. The newer "updated" one is for noisy environments and it'll sound like you're in a tunnel. Which is fine if you work in a coffee shop or the like. But this is the classic one. The mic quality still holds up for what it is to this day. When my Razer Kraken finally broke down, I bought this and coupled it with my OG V Moda M100s and while the headphones are tight and are not good for extended use, this cable WORKS on Valorant and other FPS games where coms are important. And also for calls. Overall, if you have headphones that can take this input, get one. One of the best tech 20 dollars I've spent. The cons are: the clip is a bit old school and the mic moves. But honestly, getting a working mic that is clear and good for both calls and gaming for 20 dollars? As a minimalist and a tech user, this is a no regret buy from me.

Necessity if you chat in a room with others
I have the original V-Moda Boom Pro. This is a side-grade that I was happy to get as I often game in the same room as my partner. We are only 4 feet apart, and the old mic would pick up her voice unless I set a very high noise gate in Discord. Anything auto/AI noise canceling was hit or miss, as it would decide that her speaking was my speaking. After setting up this mic, ensuring it's within an inch of my mouth, and angling it correctly—wow! She can now yell at her screen and my mic doesn't pick it up at all. The sound quality is a slight step down, but I'm picky about such things and my friends on Discord didn't notice or comment on it.
