    The Opal Desert Shines!

*by D***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on February 24, 2013*

I've read nearly all of Di Morrissey's books and found this to be one of my "top 5".Having visited the areas she writes about; I give her credit - this is very colourfully written, aptly painting pictures of "The Desert" - from the pitch black sky with the stars brightly blazing overhead; the starkness of the Opal Fields; the glistening white dry lake; to the barely noticed houses that are completely hidden under the ground, with only a fence or flowers pots outside to let others know that there actually is a house dug out "below".There are several interesting and colourful characters who live in this desolate environment, however each has a past that sees them hiding away from the bustle of a major city, content with their new life in the midst of the mining escarpment. When visitors arrive, new friendships form and as time moves on, the visitors find serenity in this landscape and all it has to offer - the desert has touched the hearts of the new comers. This book is very easy reading and I found it a great way to keep me happy on a rainy day, while I was on holiday

To learn about a life style that is foreign to me was a thrill. I could imagine this barren land
