I always make sure they are buckled and pull on them before lifting from the top. When walking with it, I usually put the strap on my shoulder and carry it like a purse wrapping my arm around it with my hand at the bottom just to be safe, though not needed. I definitely recommend this product for this particular computer and any others that will fit. It is light weight, durable, sturdy, easy to use and sufficiently holds and protects my computer when moving it from home to car to library and back. The color is nice also.
