    Purchased to fix slacks

*by S***I on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 17, 2014*

I have a pair of grey dress slacks that I love, they are comfortable, fit great and look good. Somehow I ended up getting white spots on them (I assume they are bleach stains), one on the front of each leg about mid thigh and about the size of a pencil eraser. I ordered this marker because it can be washed out before the dye is set, and I thought that gave me a chance to get it right. The first time I tried to dye the stains I over did it and the dyed area was too dark and filled in too far over the edge of the bleached area. I washed it out with cold water in the sink like the directions said and let the area dry. All of the dye came out. I then tried turning the slacks inside out and dyeing them that way. After another unsuccessful try I finally got it to look very close to the original color. I put the slacks in the dryer to set the dye, then washed and dried them. The dye set, and it looks pretty good. The product is easy to use once you get the hang of it, and it does what it says. The dyed stains are not perfect, they have a watery look to them, but from a distance I cannot tell they are there, and I doubt anyone will be looking at my thighs hard enough to see the discolored look as it is barely noticeable.

    Small investment, big gain

I had a need for a fabric marker before I ever knew such a thing existed. One day after washing my favorite grey cable-knit sweater, I noticed a bleached area on one sleeve. This spot was irregularly shaped about 2 inches long and 3/4 inch wide -- and an unattractive shade of pale pink -- possibly caused by some beach left in the detergent compartment of my washer. Whatever the cause, the effect was disappointing because my winter-time go-to sweater was apparently ruined! I tried covering the spot using a black ball point pen, but this did not work at all. Then I learned about fabric markers from my architect brother. I immediately searched for these on Amazon and found that FabricMate had a grey one at a very reasonable price. I ended up ordering several colors (green, red, blue, and brown) for other needs, as well. I am delighted to report that the grey marker covered the bleached area beautifully. The color was slightly darker than my sweater, but the cable weave masked this. After washing, I could not tell where the stain had been -- and the color seems to be permanent, as advertised! I had success with the other markers, as well, including using the red and green markers to cover the edge of a white tag I cut off of a holiday pillow. The blue marker was a little too dark to correct a faded collar on a French blue shirt, but I am sure I'll find another use for it in the future. Overall, fabric markers are my favorite find of 2012!

Very dark gray and too expensive - but doesn't wash out

*by J***T on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 1, 2019*

It's such a pain to find out the actual color and shade of fabric markers. They are so vague and this one is no exception. "gray" or "grey" is meaningless when there are so many different cool and warm grays, light and dark. When I tested it on a paper towel it didn't look too dark. But when you apply just a dab, it is super dark and wet-looking.I wanted to use this to cover small bleach dots on the legs of my gray chinos. I followed all the instructions and now I have just really dark wet-looking spots. I hope in time they will fade, but it hasn't happened yet 5 washes later. The marker goes on really dark, and my pants are medium gray, not light at all. Better to have dark spots rather than white spots? Maybe...In contrast to other negative reviews, I found that if you actually follow the instructions (apply marker and let it dry 24 hours) then it will not wash out.
