I was asked to get a "radial prod2 2-channel passive instrument direct box", is this a comparable product? what are the differences?

Hi! The first difference is that IMP2 has 1 channel and Prod2 has 2 channels. So, the IMP2 will receive 1 unbalanced signal in a TRS jack and sens 1 balanced in a XRS jack while the prod2 will do 2 of this.The other thing you need to compare is the attenuation level that between them. Isn't this the exact same thing as the behringer ultra-di di400p with a whirlwind logo on it?

Behringer just makes cheap junk that's a poor copy of another product. This DI might look like the Behringer there's no way it's the same components inside.

I need to extract the stereo mini jack output of my ipad to separate mono l and r to the sound mixer; is this a good match?

You can use two of these with RCA to 1/4" adapters, or you can use a PCDI. They make a PCDI with the mini jack cable attached as well.

I have a 1/4 ts "line out" mic set that needs to go to a usb device 1/4 ts mono "mic input". connect directly causes huge buzz. will this device help?

That buzz is most likely caused by the fact that it’s a usb device, converting the analogue signal to a digital signal. I don’t think this will help. Plus, this box has an XLR output, not a 1/4 inch output, so you would have to adapt the cord before the usb device input as well, which I’m never a fan of.

Perfect for a compact trigger rig! Night and day difference over cheap DIs!

I paired the Whirlwind IMP 2 with my TM-2 for my compact, "handy-dandy" trigger rig. Let me tell you, this little box is pure plug-and-play. I used to run a cheap, generic DI box, but I was constantly battling signal inconsistencies and weak tone. Switching to the IMP 2 made a night-and-day difference. The Sound: My TM-2 kick drum sample instantly sounded more powerful, punchy, and full. The Size: It is incredibly compact—a massive space-saver for tight stage setups. Our Live Signal Chain: We don't run a personal stage mixer. Instead, this DI plugs directly into our band's shared rack system. Our sound engineer handles the pre-EQ and gain-stages everything directly from the board to adapt to each venue's specific room acoustics. The Only Caveat (and how to handle it): This little tank is designed with a fixed, built-in attenuation (shaved-off gain) to prevent clipping, distortion, and unwanted peaks. Very useful gadget

I bought this to send signal from a guitar to a mixing board about 110 feet away. It worked without any degradation and the signal was more than clean enough for recording. Low impedance XLR output makes it easy to hook up. I didn't need to use the ground lift switch so far, but it's nice to have the feature in case of any buzzing. The parallel high impedance output is a useful feature if you also need to send the signal to a nearby amp or processor at the same time. The body of the box is really solid; I don't see it getting damaged easily. This thing is definitely worth the cost.

An awesome way to improve your sound for the price

Relatively cheap and easy way to improve sound quality for any instruments (guitar and bass especially) by converting an instrument signal into a mic signal (through xlr). Sounds cleaner and less noisy. Everything is great, 4/5 stars on sturdiness because it does feel rather light for its size. Doesn’t diminish its function.
