I have ornaments in range from very light to quite heavy **Q: What size is the base?** A: It's currently in storage, but I recall it being a good solid base. Never had trouble with it falling over. My guess is maybe 8x8 or so....prob depends on size of the tree you purchase. **Q: Can the base be removed to allow this tree to fit in an urn beside my front door?** A: Yes the base does detach from the tree. I would recommend having something for the tree to sit in securely. As you can see the base is square.
