Review: Just in time! - I have a 100 year-old house and redid some of the windows (glazing putty, window weight cords, paint, brass hardware) shortly after I bought it 40 years ago. I've just retired and need to address some of those windows again plus others that have not been touched since who-knows-when. I have been dreading this project and put it off until I retired this summer. While checking out glazing putties on the web, I discovered Sarco Type M and decided to try a container. I am glad I did! It, along with the calcium carbonate whiting powder, are MUCH easier to use and produce a much better result than the other types of glazing putty I have tried and are well worth the additional price. Be sure, however, to watch the associated videos for tips on how to do the job. That still leaves the most miserable part of this work, removing the old putty without breaking any glass. I plan to build a steam box and try a hacking knife in the hope that one of these works better that the techniques I have been using, which are tedious, tiring and not very thorough.
Review: Great glazing putty - We are restoring windows on a older home.I bought glazing putty from Lowe's and it was so hard to work with.I bought Sarco putty and will never use any other putty! It is so easy to use and dries faster than my old brand.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Outside use or only inside facing glaze? Says Type m is for inside shop only.**
A: Hello! When we say "inside shop" we are referring to the application of the product. You don't want to apply the putty and leave it outside before painting. Type M is for exterior or interior side facing windows. I hope this answered your question.

**Q: What is the best way to keep it from hardening between uses?
I tried plastic wrap on the surface, but of course there were small gaps around the edge**
A: Plastic wrap is good. You can also add a layer of water on top of the plastic wrap to press the edges more tightly against the sides of the container. Of course, store the container upright on a shelf. Just pour the water off before removing the plastic wrap for your next use.

**Q: Can I use this outside in the fall? I don't want to take the entire window off. I have storm windows, so it will be protected against rain.**
A: It is only recommended for glazing in a shop and is only for wood sash (not for steel windows). Despite this, I have had decent success using it sparingly outside as long as I get it painted in the 3-5 day range after application. All in all, this is my favorite putty! <------ That's per Sarco. Sarco needs at least 3-4 days to skin over, and I'd be leery of using it if the temperature gets below 50 degrees.

**Q: Will this work with water based paint or lacquer?**
A: Once it dries you can use water based paint over the top of it. I used a basic water based acrylic house paint over the top of it with no issues. Takes many days to dry/harden, but I loved working with this so have used often.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Superior glazing putty.
*by D***O on October 2, 2025*

Far better than DAP44, this putty handles much better, and hardens to a paintable surface in a few days instead of a few months. The best advice I got from the internet was that before you use this for the first time, empty the entire container onto a clean surface and knead it for about 10 minutes. Then pack it back into the container and work from there. As you pull out chunks of it to use on your windows, knead them for a few minutes and the product becomes much more pliable.
