On this product, the "body" of the envelope is exactly 7 1/8 in. x 5 1/4 in. Things are placed in it from the 5 1/4 side near the flap. The "flap" extends an additional and exact 1 1/2 in. beyond the opening. Hope that helps. I am pleased with this product. A LONGER than 7 1/8 flat item "could" be placed in this envelope if you folded the flap over at something less than it's full 1 1/2 inches. Doing so, of course, would compromise the best seal of the envelope because a small area along the sides would be left "open." Similarly, it would be possible to make it SHORTER than 7 1/8 in by folding the envelope at a lesser point. If you did, the flap should still function fine. The reusable adhesive strip seems just right.
