I love the classic authors and have tried to get a nice collection of movie adaptations. I love this one. I saw it on television when it was originally broadcast and looked for it for years. I didn't realize it was available for purchase until recently. I love it still. I enjoyed all the actors, especially Patrick McGoohan and Ralph Richardson. I thought the story was well done, captivating and entertaining. Now that I am older, I lean towards movies that create more mental stimulation and deeper thinking. This one fits the bill. This is an excellent, if somewhat altered, rendition of the Dumas story. The first hour is rather leisurely paced, though entertaining, but the second half really hums. The story has action, intrigue, betrayal, romance, and lots of gorgeous costumes and locations. I didn't know this so I am going to read all the books in the set. Back to the movie. It was one I had on VHS and had to have it. I really like Richard Chamberlain. To me is a classic actor. He is fantastic in about everything he does. It takes place in France during the reign of Louis the 14th. It turns out that dear Louis has a twin brother.
